Selena Gomez's rise to fame was marked most notably by Disney's Wizards Of Waverly Place. While the singer and actress continued to film her show, she also bagged more acting roles, such as in Another Cinderella Story. The Come And Get It singer was 16 years old when she played Mary Santiago in the movie.

Directed by Damon Santostefano, the teen musical comedy was released in 2008, and starred Drew Seeley as Gomez's on-screen love interest. Based on the childhood bedtime story, Cinderella, the movie brings to action the modern-day Cinderella, who strives to become a dancer.

Mary is caught between finding her true love for Joey Parker (played by Drew Seeley) and surviving her legal guardian, Dominique Blatt's antics (played by Jane Lynch).

Selena Gomez had already made her name in the teen entertainment industry as Alex Russo in Wizards Of Waverly Place. While Gomez looked at transitioning from teen roles to more big-screen adult roles, her on-screen partner had already been a part of the industry.

Drew Seeley was 26 years old when the movie was filmed, and not a stranger to being in the Hollywood spotlight. Seeley had previously lent his voice to Zac Efron in Disney's hit-teen musical, High School Musical.

Selena Gomez played modern-day Cinderella, but with a twist— she is an aspiring school dancer. Seeley played a modern-day prince, who falls in love with the girl he dances with in a school dance. Although the two shared a 10-year age-gap, they play high schoolers, and could complement each other's dancing skills. While the film was critiqued for the age gap between the protagonists, the stars enjoyed working with each other.

A decade after its release, Drew Seeley also took to his Instagram to celebrate being part of the movie. The actor called it a complete "game changer" and a role that he is known "most for". He expressed gratitude towards his fans and wrote,

"So grateful to have had that experience."

More recently, Drew also talked about his co-actress, Selena Gomez on a YouTube series Christy’s Kitchen Throwback in 2020. Drew told the host Christy Carlson,

“It was great, she was awesome."

Drew thought about his days on the set of Another Cinderella Story with Selena Gomez and added,

“She was great singer, dancer and very kind and not entitled at all, which I love.”

As for the ending of the movie, it is a happy one. Mary and Parker not only fall in love, but the former is also accepted into a dance school.

Another Cinderella Story is a sequel to the 2004 movie, A Cinderella Story starring Hillary Duff and Chad Michael Murray in the lead roles. Another Cinderella Story is the second installment in the A Cinderella Story series, created by movie producer Leigh Dunlap, based on the popular fairytale.

Unlike the original Damsel in Distress, Selena Gomez brought to action a modern-day Cinderella who was driven to achieve her dreams and had an independent personality. Even with a ten-year age gap, her counterpart Drew Seeley complimented her acting and singing.
