Well-known musician Shafin Ahmed unexpectedly passed away on July 24, 2024, at the age of 63. While a cause of death is yet to be confirmed, the artist was hospitalized for health issues before his death.

Shafin's brother Hamin first revealed the news while speaking to the media. He said that Ahmed was supposed to perform at a few concerts in the US, and one of his shows in Virginia was canceled when he reportedly had a cardiac arrest on July 20.

"He was admitted to the hospital that day. He was put on life support as various of his organs started failing. But he could not be brought back," Hamin said.

Manam Ahmed, a member of Miles, also said in a statement to the media that Shafin Ahmed died at 6.25 am. He said that Shafin had been battling with heart disease and kidney ailments for a long time.

"He shouldn't have traveled so frequently with such health conditions. Travel and irregular health habits made him more sick," Manam said.

Shafin gained recognition as a member of the rock band Miles. He was living in the US with some close relatives. Meanwhile, Hamin is planning to travel to the US on July 25 to complete the formalities for bringing back Shafin's body to his home.

Shafin's survivors include his wife Naheen and their three children.

The Calcutta, West Bengal native accumulated a huge fanbase after joining Miles in 1979. However, he was also in the headlines for his frequent departures from the group for different reasons. His permanent exit happened in 2021, and he took to Facebook to post a video addressing the reasons for his exit.

Shafin Ahmed said many "unfair and unjust activities" existed inside the band for a long time. He even recalled the time he worked with the group, saying that they did ample creative work, which helped him reach a different kind of position in the band.

"I will make appearances on stage and recordings. I expect that the name, 'Miles' will not be misused. We celebrated the 40th anniversary of the band gloriously and respectfully. If we cannot work together, the line-up's activities should not be suspended at this point, and I think that is the best decision."

Ahmed added that the band's name should not be misused in any manner, saying that it refers to his hard work and dedication. He claimed he was the "Voice of Miles" and that only he should get the right to use the name.

Shafin Ahmed's musical career dates back to his early days when he started training in Nazrul Sangeet. His mother, Feroza Begum, was an expert in Nazrul Sangeet, and his father, Kamal Dasgupta, was a singer and composer for several Hindi and Bengali films.

He slowly started developing an interest in Western music, leading to the formation of Miles in 1979. He contributed as a vocalist and guitarist in the group. The band's journey started with the first album, Miles, in 1982. The band continued releasing more projects, such as Prottoy and Probaho.

Shafin Ahmed even established another band named Rhythm of Life after his first exit from Miles in 2010. The group was active until 2021, and Ahmed continued working with Miles for the next few years.
