Snoop Dogg is an American rapper, actor, and songwriter. Snoop Dogg was born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. and picked up a stage moniker after his cousin, who used to call himself Tate Doggy Dog. He started rapping when he was in high school. In a 1993 interview with the Los Angeles Times, Broadus opened up about drawing "crowds" in the school hallway. He recognized that people were interested in his raps and said,
“It made me begin to realize that I had a gift."
He debuted in 1993 with his single, What's My Name? featured in his first album, Doggystyle. Snoop revealed he had another gift, his Intelligence Quotient (IQ) many years later. He shared a post on Instagram in 2020 that said he has the IQ of a "gifted genius." When questioned about his IQ, as reported by Ladbible, he said,
"I am really brilliant."
How smart is Snoop Dogg? What did his fans say about his reported IQ?
With 17 Grammy Award nominations and 19 released studio albums, Snoop has displayed his musical intelligence over the last few decades. Recognized as the West Coast icon, Snoop took to his Instagram to reveal his Intelligence Quotient (IQ). He shared a photo by RAPTVZONE in 2020 that said,
"Snoop Dogg has an IQ level of 147 that is thought to be extremely high and that of a gifted genius."
Following the post, the Drop It Like It's Hot singer added a string of emojis to the caption. These included a shrug, a shout, and a fist. In a story covered by LadBible, Snoop went on to say that he is "brilliant."
The post came as a surprise for his fans and it seemed that they were divided by the revelation. Some fans gleamed and agreed with his high IQ, while others seemed skeptical about the declaration. One user wrote under the post,
"And this is based on what metric? Who gave the test, when, who graded it, and where are the witnesses? I need proof other than a tabloids 's proclamation."
While another user wrote,
"No. 160 is genius. 147 is above average or superior intelligence. You’re smart but not a genius and that’s perfectly fine."
While Snoop Dogg revealed his IQ, he did not follow up the post with any message or explanation of his IQ. However, he has displayed various abilities, including being a producer, actor, investor, and media personality.
As an entrepreneur, he has expanded his business ventures, starting with the acquisition of Death Row Records, his record label in 2022. Moreover, the rapper is also the owner of the wine brand, Cali by Snoop, and a legal cannabis production business in California.
Over his 30-plus years of career, Snoop Dogg has collaborated with various seasoned artists like Dr Dre, Akon, Katy Perry, and many more. Snoop has frequently been invited as a guest on television talk shows, such as Jimmy Kimmel Live, and has amassed a substantial number of film credits, including Training Day (2001).
While there is no public evidence of Snoop Dogg's IQ, he has been considered a creative genius and The King of the West Coast, per Vice Magazine. His contributions to the music industry have also been recognized over the years. Most recently, he lent his voice to Maurice in the Garfield Movie and played the role of Jaycen Jennings, a former NFL superstar in the sports comedy film, The Underdoggs in 2024.
