Neil Young was supposed to go on tour with his band Crazy Horse. Titled the Love Earth, the tour was canceled in June due to what the band said at the time was illness among the band members.
Now Neil Young has broken his silence on the matter and elaborated to his Neil Young Archives followers over a Zoom call on what exactly led to the cancelation of the tour:
“I was doing great, and we were moving right along. Everybody was loving the shows. Then I just woke up one morning on the bus and I said, ‘I can’t do this. I gotta stop.’ It was like I felt sick when I thought of going on stage. My body was telling me, ‘You gotta stop.’ So I listened to my body."
The singer also elaborated on the legal complexities of canceling the tour, stating:
“Then it gets into all the legal matters: ‘You got this, you got that, people bought tickets, they did this, they did that.’ I understand that. What matters to me is the art of playing, and the music. That’s what matters. That’s what people loved. That’s what they come to see. But if that’s not there, me going is not happening,”
Finally, the singer briefly touched upon the future and his plans for it, stating:
“I’m starting to feel like I could do it again and that’s a great feeling. Not all of Crazy Horse — this happened to a couple of us, and we’re not all the way back. Crazy Horse will be back, God willing. And we’ll play more."
The singer also touched briefly upon the possibility of an intimate tour focused around small venues in the future. The video of the Zoom call was shared on Reddit on August 28, 2024, and is shared below:
More on Neil Young and Crazy Horse tour cancelation
The original cancelation announcement touched upon how the band was canceling the tour to recover and make new music, stating:
"...We are still not fully recovered, so sadly our great tour will have a big unplanned break. We will try to play some of the dates we miss as time passes when we are ready to rock again!.. Thanks for your understanding and patience. Health is # 1. We want to stay and do more shows and more albums for you…. and for for us."
