"I’m dating a very high-maintenance girl" — Britney Spears's ex Sam Asghari discusses dating and career after divorce

Britney Spears's ex-husband, Sam Asghari, recently opened up about his life following his divorce from the pop star. In an interview with Us Weekly on Wednesday, July 31, the 30-year-old revealed that he is now taking care of a "very high-maintenance girl." He was, of course, talking about his pet dog, Porsche. Asghari told the publication:

"Right now, I’m dating a very high-maintenance girl and, you know, I have to get her nails done and take her to the dog park and feed her good food and get her really nice treats. That is what I’m focused on at the moment."

Sam Asghari also shared that he is dedicating all his effort and attention to his acting and production career, indicating that he is not prioritizing dating at the moment.

Sam Asghari is not focusing on dating at the moment

Hesam "Sam" Asghari and Britney Spears first sparked dating rumors in 2016 and officially went public with their relationship on Instagram in 2017. The duo got engaged in 2021 and tied the knot in 2022. The couple later separated and filed for divorce in August 2023, which was finalized on May 1, 2024.

In an interview with Us Weekly on July 31, the 30-year-old model talked about his life post-Britney Spears. He revealed that he is focusing on his pet dog Porsche and his career. Asghari stated:

"[A] career is something that’s going to require 100 percent of your time, and I’m really putting all that effort and putting all of my mindset towards acting … [and] producing career."

Asghari stated that his career goals required that type of "work ethic." The 30-year-old was inspired by watching his sisters do an "amazing" job at pursuing their dreams. Watching his sisters' work at 100 percent made Sam realize that he was going to have to put in a "100-and-something percent" to reach his goals.

Sam Asghari told the publication that his goals were the opposite of his personality. Regarding his dating life, Asghari said:

"That’s (his goals) gonna require a lot of time, so I’m not really focusing on [dating] at the moment."

In a separate interview with E! News published on Thursday, August 1, Sam Asghari wished his ex-wife Britney Spears "the best" for her future. He also noted that it was going to take "some time" for him to start dating again. He told the publication:

"She's an amazing person and a huge part of my life and I always appreciate the moments we had together."

After 14 months of marriage to the ...Baby One More Time hitmaker, Sam Asghari is currently single and has been so ever since the split with Spears. He also talked to Us Weekly about learning "so much" from relationships or major experiences in one's life. He noted:

"It’s definitely something that I learned so much from the past, and that’s something that was a college crash course on how cruel some people in Hollywood could be."

The actor proclaimed that he was always going to be the person who liked to appreciate and celebrate the past. To Asghari, who came to the United States from Iran, he was living the "American dream." This was something he was always going to appreciate. He told the publication:

"Anything that’s going to happen in the future is going to be a blessing, and it’s going to I’m always going to appreciate those moments."

Sam Asghari will play Senior Agent Ash in the upcoming Paul Feig action-comedy movie Jackpot. The film boasts an incredible cast, including John Cena, Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Seann William Scott, Taylor Ortega, and Machine Gun Kelly. Jackpot is set to premiere on Prime Video on August 15, 2024.
