"I’m in therapy twice a week": Chappell Roan talks about being diagnosed with severe depression

In an interview with The Guardian dated September 20, 2024, Chappell Roan opened up about coping with fame and her mental health. The publication mentioned that the singer said at her concert in June that it was "really hard to keep up" and the footage of the same went viral.

Talking about how the 26-year-old has been coping with new-found fame, Chappell told the publication:

“I’m in therapy twice a week. I went to a psychiatrist last week because I was like, I don’t know what’s going on. She diagnosed me with severe depression – which I didn’t think I had because I’m not actually sad. But I have every symptom of someone who’s severely depressed.”

Commenting on how her life has changed, the singer said that everything she loves doing "now comes with baggage." Giving an example of the same, Chappell Roan mentioned that if she wants to go thrifting, she has to book security and prepare herself that the experience will not be normal.

Chappell Roan also questioned how she could go to the park or undertake activities like yoga in a safe way, where she wasn't going to be stalked or harassed.

Additionally, Roan mentioned that some of her fans don't want to hear her talk about her experiences, assuming she is complaining about her success. However, she clarified her stance and stated that she complains about being abused and not the fame.

In other news, during her recent concert in the O2 Academy Brixton, Chappell Roan expressed her gratitude toward the gay community and mentioned that she would be sad if she didn't have gay people in her life.

Recalling her teen years, the singer said that she "desperately needed to feel this" when she was thirteen, and went on to thank the community for their presence.
