Jonas Brothers star Joe Jonas opened up about not coming after anyone on his upcoming studio album. In an interview with Billboard published on Monday, August 26, the singer claimed that he was not putting anyone on blast on his upcoming studio album Music for People Who Believe in Love. He told the publication:
"I’m not trying to come for anyone on this album. I’m not trying to put stuff on blast. I have a beautiful life that I’m grateful for. I’ve got two beautiful kids. I’m a happy person, and the music needed to resemble that — but also, the journey to get here."
Jonas and ex-wife and Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner went through a very public and widely reported divorce last year after being married for four years and parenting two children.
"I think, at such a crazy time in my life"- Joe Jonas in his recent interview with Billboard
Joe Jonas sat down with Billboard to talk about his upcoming album Music for People Who Believe in Love in an article published on Monday. The singer dominated headlines last year for his high-profile divorce from Sophie Turner. The singer told Billboard that venturing into a personal project at that time proved to be quite therapeutic for him.
Jonas also noted that despite being "scary at times", the experience was also "freeing". As mentioned earlier, the singer told the publication that he wasn't going after anyone with the new album or trying to "put stuff on blast". He was grateful for his "beautiful life" and "two beautiful kids". Jonas simply wanted his music to reflect his happiness.
Earlier in the interview, the 35-year-old opened up about going through "a lot of life changes" over the last few years which helped him find out who he was as a person, father, and friend, while at the same time living under the music industry microscope. Joe Jonas told the publication:
"I think, at such a crazy time in my life, I looked to music as an outlet."
Jonas last released a solo studio album way back in 2011 with Fastlife. However, Billboard noted that his new project sounded nothing like his debut solo studio album, his band DNCE, or the Jonas Brothers. According to the publication, the album focused on finding gratitude amidst loss and navigating the uncertainties of life.
The album began with a song titled, Only Love, which Joe Jonas actually conceived alongside his brothers. However, during the writing process, Joe noticed that the song was reflecting personal experiences that he went through. The singer narrated:
"I go to Kevin and Nick, ‘Hey, can I use this as a catapult to go explore what this sound could be, and also what I’m trying to figure out emotionally?’ They were very supportive — Nick said, ‘Well, damn, I really like that song. But I get what you need to do, so go for it.’ "
Around a year after dating, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner announced their engagement in October 2017 and tied the knot in Las Vegas on May 1, 2019, before getting married again in France later that year in June. In July of 2020, Turner and Jonas welcomed their first child, a daughter named Willa.
In 2022, the couple welcomed a second daughter named Delphine. However, on September 5, 2023, Jonas filed for divorce from Turner after four years of marriage. Court documents from the divorce filing claimed that the duo's marriage was "irretrievably broken". In a joint Instagram statement released on September 6, 2023, the duo stated that the divorce was a "united decision".
Later that month, Turner sued Joe Jonas in a "wrongful retention" lawsuit to have their kids returned to England. In January 2024, the lawsuit was dropped by Turner with the duo's parenting agreement being approved by a UK court earlier that month.
In an interview with British Vogue in May of this year, Sophie Turner opened up about being hurt by the rumors that she was an absentee mother. The actress was filming for Joan in England and contractually bound to the project when the articles started coming out. She told the publication:
"It hurt because I really do completely torture myself over every move I make as a mother — mom guilt is so real!"
She added:
"I just kept having to say to myself, 'None of this is true. You are a good mum and you've never been a partier.' "
Joe Jonas's second solo studio album Music for People Who Believe in Love is all set to be released on October 18 by by Republic Records.
