On August 27, 2022, Maren Morris took to X (formerly Twitter) to respond to Jason Aldean's wife Britanny who took to Instagram in 2022 to comment negatively amidst an ongoing debate about gender-affirming care. In a makeup reveal video, Britanny Aldean mentioned:

"I'd really like to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my tomboy phase. I love this girly life."

While celebrities like Joy Oladokun and Cassadee Pope called Britanny out, Maren Morris' tweet from the time has recently gone viral wherein Morris stated:

"It’s so easy to, like, not be a scumbag human? Sell your clip-ins and zip it, Insurrection Barbie."

Commenting on her 2022 tweet on Cosmopolitian's Cheap Shots on August 19, 2024, Morris said that she doesn't have any tweets that she's regretted. She continued:

“I will say I didn’t think my ‘Insurrection Barbie’ tweet to a certain someone would have picked up so much momentum, but I stand by it.”

"I didn't ever feel before I had the courage to say that": Maren Morris comments on the song which inspired her to come out as bisexual

Months after filing her divorce from Ryan Hurd, Maren Morris came out as bisexual via an Instagram post on June 9, 2024, with the caption:

"happy to be the B in LGBTQ+ happy pride 🌈"

In an interview with PEOPLE published on August 6, 2024, the Chasing After You singer talked about how her song Push Me Over gave her the courage to come out as bisexual publicly. She told the publication:

"I didn't ever feel before I had the courage to say that, and it was something that I knew for decades, but I think it was just the timing of: I'm in a space to say this without anything really getting misconstrued, and it's Pride Month,"

The singer stated that she had felt comfortable in herself, enough to write a song like Push Me Over and that writing the song gave her "the little shot of courage" she needed.

Moreover, The Middle singer also talked about working with MUNA, given she teased working with the pop trio in May 2024. Calling it the "perfect group of people to write that song with," Morris said that she had been a fan of MUNA for long. She called the pop trio's member Naomi McPherson "an incredible producer" and mentioned that collaborating with MUNA allowed her to "freak out over each other's talents".

Telling the publication about the time she recorded the song with MUNA, Maren Morris mentioned:

"It was just such an easy day. You don't always get those. It just came together so perfectly, it's almost suspiciously easy. It was really fun to connect with them through that lens, and I'm so excited that they're on this project."

According to PEOPLE, Maren Morris called the support of her fans after her coming out as bisexual "really encouraging and obviously so nice". She mentioned that she could've said a lot of things that could be polarizing but her Instagram post just felt like:

"if it connects with somebody or feels like they feel a little bit braver, knowing artists that they admire or love is too, that's obviously an amazing byproduct of being honest with yourself."

The singer also mentioned that she doesn't know if many people were surprised by her announcement.
