"I thought I was being joked!"— Jelly Roll couldn't believe it when Eminem invited him to perform at Michigan Central concert alongside rapper

American rapper and singer Jason Bradley DeFord aka Jelly Roll recently performed alongside rapper Eminem at the Live From Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central on June 6, 2024.

In an exclusive by ET Online dated June 10, 2024, the Save Me rapper mentioned that Eminem's team reached out to his team and asked if Jelly Roll would be interested in a performance together, given he was already going to be at the event for a secret tribute. Jason stated that he thought it was a joke until he met Eminem himself.

Recalling the incident, Jelly Roll said:

"I thought I was being joked! I even know Eminem's manager. He's a friend of mine. He's really good to me. His name is Paul and I was like, 'Paul, don't play.' He was like, 'I swear.' And as soon as I met Eminem, it was like the coolest moment ever, man."

In the video from the concert, Jason joined Eminem in Sing For The Moment, to the audience's surprise. Additionally, Eminem also performed his latest single Houdini at the Live From Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central.

Apart from Jason and Eminem, the 90-minute concert in Detroit featured performances by Slum Village, Illa J, Big Sean, Diana Ross, and many more.


"I mean, just what an incredible night"— Jelly Roll talks about performing alongside Eminem

Talking to ET Online about getting the chance to perform with The Real Slim Shady rapper, Jelly Roll told the publication that when he thinks about the coolest moments of his career, getting to sing with Eminem in Detroit will be at the top. Jason also mentioned that it was special to sing Sing For The Moment with Eminem as it was the record where the former sampled Steven Tyler.

Commenting on the concert and his performance with Marshall Mathers (Eminem's real name), Jason stated:

"I mean, just what an incredible night and I got to go do it in Detroit. It was unreal."

Citing his emotions at the time, the Halfway To Hell rapper said that he was "giddy, like a child" and that his emotions could be seen all over his performance. He mentioned that it was just the kid in him and that he thought the camera was off of him.

Additionally, a little behind-the-scenes footage of Jelly Roll meeting Eminem before hitting the stage together was posted by Jason's wife Bunny XO on TikTok. The two rappers can be seen meeting outside the Michigan Central Station wherein Jason takes his hat off out of respect for Marshall Mathers and then they greet each other. Bunny XO captioned the video "When the goat meets THE GOAT" with Eminem's song My Name Is playing in the background.

Currently, Jelly Roll is in the process of finishing his unnamed upcoming album, which will follow Whitsitt Chapel. Talking to ET Online about the same, Jason said that this has been his whole life for the last 11 months and that he has been "drowning in this album."

He also shared that he never wrote more songs before and never took them seriously. As a result, he'll probably be releasing more music this year than he has released in any year of his entire career.
