"I went cold" — Liam Payne's sister Nicola Payne found out about singer's death from a news alert

Former One Direction member Liam Payne's sister Nicola Payne took to Instagram on October 21, 2024, remembering her younger brother via a carousel of pictures and a heartfelt note. Talking about how she came to know of her brother's demise via a news alert on her phone, Nicola Payne stated:

"When I saw the news pop up on my phone that you had left us I went cold, I wanted so much for this to be untrue. I have spent days hoping that it was a mistake and somebody has got it wrong."

Nicola began her statement by mentioning that she has posted about Liam and his achievements over the years "with a proud sister alert" and that will remain the same. She also addressed Liam Payne and said that he was too good for this earth and that he was an angel who lived to make people happy. Complimenting Liam's virtues, Nicola Payne mentioned:

"You have always shown kindness to everyone you met and it shows with just how many people have confirmed what we always knew!"

In her statement, Nicola Payne also mentioned how she and Liam don't have a lot of photos together because the late singer's family never wanted him to feel like he was in a room full of fans. However, she claimed that Liam's family members were his biggest fans and will remain so forever.

"We knew you and we loved you"- Liam Payne's sister mentions in her tribute to the late singer

In her tribute to Liam Payne via an Instagram post, Nicola Payne stated that the late singer's talent alone puts him miles ahead and so does his virtue of being himself. She recalled the messages from the night she had her daughter Ffion and how excited Liam was to meet her.

Nicola shared that Liam led his life with a motto of "Why bother doing something unless you are brilliant at it" and she mentioned that he was brilliant at everything he did. Commenting on the multiple videos of Liam that have been doing the rounds on the internet, Nicola Payne said:

"Unfortunately this cruel world is always to quick to judge someone from a few 5 second clips, they then think it entitles them to be able to speak like they know you. We knew you and we loved you."

In addition to Nicola Payne, Liam's older sister Ruth Gibbins also took to Instagram on October 19, 2024, to express her emotions about her brother's demise. Ruth said that Liam was her best friend and that nobody could make her laugh as much as he did. In her ode to Liam, Ruth Gibbins mentioned that the late singer was born with music in his veins and that she'll never get tired of the look he gave when showing his new songs by asking Ruth to "listen loud".

Toward the end of her post, Ruth thanked Liam Payne for changing her life and mentioned that she will take care of Bear, the late singer's seven-year-old son with Cheryl Cole. Ruth signed off on her tribute to Liam by apologizing for not being able to save him and by stating that she'd drive to the end of the universe to bring him back.

Liam Payne succumbed to injuries after falling off a balcony located on the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires. News of the singer's demise was confirmed on October 16, 2024, wherein Buenos Aires medics declared him dead on the spot stating he suffered from internal and external haemorrhage and a skull fracture.
