Bad Bunny and Shakira are successful Latino musicians. With so many giants in the Latin music industry, one wonders if one artist is more popular than the other. According to a survey by Odds Scanner, Bad Bunny (AKA Benito) is the most-heard Latin artist of all time on Spotify, while Shakira is only second on the list. Bunny also appears in the top three most-listened artists of all time on Spotify.

Shakira stepped into global fame with her fifth album, Laundry Service, in 2001. The multiple Grammy Award winner is credited with taking Latin music to the international market. Bunny's race to become more popular than other Latin artists, like Shakira, Daddy Yankee, and others, can be attributed to his contribution to Latin Trap music.

According to a survey by Odds Scanner with data collected from Spotify, Bad Bunny is the most streamed Latin artist. On ChartMasters, Benito ranks third as the most-listened-to artist after Drake and Taylor Swift. While the position of the artist is subject to change every month, Benito has frequently made it to the top. Bunny's popularity also stems from the fact that he sings Latin trap entirely in Spanish.

He is also the highest-grossing Latin artist of all time, with more than $508 million. According to Billboard, his biggest reported show collected $31.1 million at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood in September 2022.

In an interview for GQ in 2023, Bad Bunny revealed that he does not make music to go "worldwide," but rather,

"If only Puerto Ricans were going to listen to them."

The biggest reported show for Shakira was 4.1 million when she performed in Mexico in February 2003. Many years later, the Hips Don't Lie singer has delivered chart-topping hits. In 2023, Shakira made Spotify history by having the most monthly listeners as a Latin artist.

The rise in listeners came after the release of BZRP Music Session #53. The singer also broke another record for the most-watched Latin song in the history of YouTube. The music video was viewed 82 million times in just 24 hours.

Shakira also thanked her fans for her fans "loyalty and support." She wrote in her caption,

"I feel humbled and grateful though I’m only one among millions of women out there who have so much to say and offer. Women of all races, ages, and conditions."

Bad Bunny's rise to stardom has happened over the last couple of years. However, Shakira's fan base has expanded over the years internationally. Both singers have received numerous Grammy nominations and won three times, respectively.

Bad Bunny and Shakira are chart-toppers and successful in their own right. Music streams are often considered a way to gauge an artist's popularity. Shakira has dethroned many Latin artists to become the most-listened female artist on Spotify. However, Bunny's reign over the Latin music industry has continued even in 2024. While it has not been revealed if a music collaboration will happen, the chances are not unlikely.

Recently, Shakira released her new album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, in 2024. Bad Bunny released his last album, Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana, in 2023.
