With the ever-increasing popularity of her debut studio album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, Chappell Roan is currently the center of attention in the music industry. With her career thriving on one hand, the singer-songwriter recently hinted at a budding romantic relationship in an August 2024 interview with actor and comedian Bowen Yang for Interview Magazine.
When Yang asked Chappell Roan if she had been sleeping all right while on tour, given her insomnia, she said:
"Kind of. I sleep for a long time on the bus, but I’ve been talking to this girl that I have a crush on, so I don’t sleep anymore."
The identity of said "girl" is yet to be revealed by the Casual singer.
Chappell Roan says she is a "relationship girl"
Chappell Roan, in conversation with Bowen Yang for the Interview Magazine, said that having a crush on someone is her "favorite part of life". The 26-year-old shared:
"It’s the best thing ever when you are at the beginning of a relationship and talking on FaceTime for eight hours a day."
When Yang remarked how all-consuming crushes feel, the Femininomenon singer added:
"Yeah. I’m a relationship girl. I’ve never dated someone less than a year. So I always cherish the honeymoon phase."
Roan then went on to say that while her job is exciting, it is the other parts of her life that she truly cherishes. Her examples included crushing on a girl, the cover of her album made by her best friend, and the fact that she joined Chappell on tour for five days.
Chappell Roan on acting
Elsewhere in the interview, Yang asked Roan if she was planning to get into acting any time soon, to which her response was a resounding "no". Expressing her disapproval towards actors and acting, she proclaimed:
"I say this with peace, and love, and blessings. Actors are f***ing crazy."
Chappell Roan then shared how her plans were very different at the beginning of her career but changed over time. She recalled:
"I originally started doing music because I wanted to get my foot in the door for acting, and then I moved to Los Angeles, and I was like, 'F*** that.' The industry is legitimately so scary, and it is so out of my control."
The Red Wine Supernova singer compared acting to singing and highlighted the lack of freedom in the latter by saying:
"I can put out music whenever I want. I don’t have to wait for a casting director to be like, 'It would be great if we cast you, and then we’ll decide your schedule for the next three months.'"
In the end, Roan also confessed that if she had to do any acting, she'd prefer it to be a cameo. She exaggeratedly claimed that even though she has been trained in acting, she still finds it "the most stressful thing in the world".
Chappell Roan once said "no" to a scholarship because of her boyfriend
Chappell Roan reflected on her past mistakes and revealed how she had once said no to a full scholarship because of her boyfriend at the time.
"My biggest regret in life is that I gave up a full-ride scholarship to an arts high school called Interlochen. They were like, “We want you, b****,” and I was like, “I love my hick boyfriend, who’s a dairy farmer, going nowhere.” So I said no. I look back, and I’m like, “Damn, all that for a Marine?”
Roan regretted that she missed the scholarship and wondered if the art school could've saved her from "a lot of queer violence." However, her experiences made her the Midwest Princess that she is today, which is why she believes that everything happened for a reason.
Roan is currently on a break from her ongoing headlining tour and will kickstart its next leg in Europe on August 31. The Midwest Princess Tour will conclude in Austin, Texas on October 11.
