Gunna (Wunna) is the most recent guest to have appeared on Spotify's RapCaviar Day In The Life show. The streaming platform interviews popular rappers about their music, hip-hop culture, and more on the show while also taking fans through a day in the artist's life.

The 6:15-minute episode was uploaded to Spotify's main YouTube channel and finds the rapper relaxing at his mom's house in Atlanta. He also speaks about his interests like health, working out, and touring. While discussing his live shows, Wunna recounted his viral Fox Theatre concert, citing the crowd's energy as a "moment."

Around the four-minute mark, Gunna went on record to explain where he stands with Young Thug's record label, YSL. His comments dismissed a lot of the speculation online about him cutting ties with the label after accepting a plea deal in the "YSL RICO" case in 2022.

The rapper suggests that nothing has changed between him and YSL, since he was released from jail.

"I’m still signed to YSL, I’m still providing, like we still pushing. Like, no paperwork has been changed; know what I’m saying. So it’s like whatever’s been getting and how we pushing this s--t, it’s still going," he said.

Everything we know about Gunna's involvement in the "YSL RICO" case

Back in May 2022, Gunna, along with Young Thug and 25 other YSL associates, were arrested and jailed. Facing a 56-count charge, the indictment alleges that the record label acts as a front for gang-related activities.

The prosecution claims that members of YSL have allegedly been involved in multiple crimes, some of which were violent. The crimes include murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, theft, drug dealing, carjacking, and witness intimidation.

The 88-page indictment identifies YSL as "Young Slime Life," a criminal street gang. It also alleges over 100 different instances where members of the collective participated in gang-related activity and conspiracies. To support this indictment, lyrics and social media posts were used as evidence.

After spending close to eight months behind bars, Gunna was released on December 14, 2022, after accepting an Alford plea deal for a racketeering conspiracy charge.

The court commuted Wunna's five-year sentence to time served, and he was assigned 500 hours of community service. Before being released, Wunna was also required to agree to multiple statements alleging YSL of being a music label and a gang, citing that he was aware of associates within the record label engaging in criminal activity.

Post-release, the rapper maintained his innocence and even called for the release of Young Thug through his music and social media posts. During a public statement, he explained his intention to not be involved as a witness or to testify on behalf of the prosecution in the case.

"While I have agreed to always be truthful, I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way" - Gunna said in a public statement regarding his plea deal.

The rapper continued his statement by citing that his decision to end his RICO case with an Alford plea deal was in his "best interest," as pleading guilty to a single count of racketeering allows him to maintain his innocence toward the same charge, given his commuted sentence and a court-mandated community service requirement.

“I love and cherish my association with YSL music, and always will. I look at this as an opportunity to give back to my community and educate young men and women that “gangs” and violence only lead to destruction." - Gunna continued in his public statement.

Gunna released his fifth studio album, Wun of One, on May 10, 2024, and it was distributed to all major streaming platforms under an exclusive license to YSL Records and 300 Entertainment.

The album peaked at No.1 on Billboard's "Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums" chart on May 25, 2024. Luminate also confirmed that Gunna's LP sold over 90,000 album-equivalent units in its first week of release.
