Austin Richard Post is professionally recognized as Post Malone. The ten-time Grammy Award nominee said that although he is famous now, he experienced a difficult childhood. He talked to Alex Cooper in her Call Her Daddy podcast in February 2023. Malone revealed his personality traits while growing up and said that he has always been "kind of an introverted kid."
He explained:
“I loved to express, I love making music forever, I love playing games. Weird, a little weirdo.”
Although Malone has sung in front of thousands, he has given the most "nerve-wracking" performance at Super Bowl LVIII on February 11, 2024. During the pre-game festivities, he sang a rendition of America the Beautiful. He appeared in an interview with Apple Music three days before this act and mentioned that he was "very nervous" about his Super Bowl performance, but decided to give his best.
Post Malone talks about his lonely childhood and negative school experiences
Post Malone has previously revealed that he experienced self-esteem issues while growing up. In an interview with Howard Stern in June 2022, Malone said that he has battled anxiety and depression since his high school days. In his appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, he talked about being "bullied" a lot in school.
Malone, who was 9 at the time, had difficulty making friends. He explained:
“I guess for dressing the way I did. We wore skinny jeans and all that stuff, and that was just kind of like a new deal. I don’t know."
The Circles singer exclaimed that kids were "mean" and added:
"People’d throw gum in my hair!"
Malone told GQ Style in March 2020 that because of bullying, he would cry himself to sleep "every f**king day." He explained that this would happen both during middle and high school. He resorted to other coping mechanisms and said:
"I tried to drink some beers to get rid of that sh*t, but it just never goes away. And I don't think that's anybody's fault; it has to do with something predisposed in you.”
It appears that his childhood experiences have seemingly affected his self-esteem. In the same interview, Malone also discussed his facial tattoos. He explained that his need to get inked comes from a "place of insecurity." He continued:
"I don't like how I look, so I'm going to put something cool on there so I can look at myself and say, ‘You look cool, kid,’ and have a modicum of self-confidence when it comes to my appearance.”
Although Post Malone has struggled with self-esteem issues, he is working actively on his health. On the Call Her Daddy podcast, Malone said that fatherhood has turned his life around and that he wants to live a healthier life for his daughter. While Malone has admitted to being an introvert, he has always enthralled his fans with confident performances.
Irrespective of his bullying experiences at school, Post Malone reportedly sent his custom Crocs to all students at his high school in 2020. He is currently working to release his debut country song album, F-1 Trillion, on August 16.
