On July 31, 2024, rock band Journey fame Steve Perry was trending on X owing to a list of the greatest rock singers of all time according to Chat GPT shared by a page called Rock History.

The list did not feature Steve Perry's name, which garnered a response from the band's fans, who tweeted that the Journey singer and frontman should have made it to the list. The volume of these tweets led Steve Perry to become a trending topic on X, which led fans of the band and internet users to believe that something bad had happened to the singer.

However, according to multiple publications and the singer's interviews with portals like Rolling Stone, the 75-year-old singer is alive and has announced plans to resume work on musical projects soon.

"I just signed with a new label"— Journey frontman Steve Perry mentions in an interview

In May 2024, Nic Collins and Trev Collins released their version of Journey's 1986 track It Could Have Been You via their new band Effect with vocals by Steve Perry. The same month, Steve gave an interview to Rolling Stone wherein he talked about the prospects of making new music soon.

“I just signed with a new label. I’m very excited about it, and I’ll have an opportunity very soon to work with these very, very musically creative people. I’ll probably announce who I signed with very soon. That’s about as much as I can say, but I’m excited about that, and I am working on stuff,” he told the publication.

The Journey frontman also talked to the publication about being away from making new music and mentioned that it is something that he is "absolutely missing terribly." Steve said that there had been an original feeling of "big soulful reclaiming" about singing that he needed to get back to.

Steve Perry performed with Journey from 1977 to 1987 and again from 1995 to 1998, after which he focused on his solo career. He occasionally made guest appearances and refrained from exposure to the public eye.

In 2013, the Journey frontman made his cancer diagnosis public via his site Fan Asylum, wherein he mentioned that he had Melanoma skin cancer. While Steve didn't mention which stage of melanoma cancer he had, he said he underwent two surgeries in two weeks to remove the cancer cells and that he didn't have to undergo other treatments.

Steve remained away from the music arena and the public eye for some time and dropped his new single in 20 years on August 15, 2018, called No Erasin. The same year, he released his new album, Traces.

In his recent interview with Rolling Stone, Steve Perry acknowledged the disappointment of his fans after he released Traces in 2018 and didn't tour after it. Calling it a long story, the singer mentioned that he had "aches and pains" owing to his age.

However, Steve also said that why he didn't tour is a good question that he has been asking himself. He said that Trev Collins has been behind him for the same, hinting at the possibility of a tour with Trev and Nic's band Effect.
