Nicki Minaj has established herself as an irreplaceable artist in the rap industry. Over the last 15 years, Minaj has released five studio albums, completed four world tours, and worked on countless collaborations with other recognized rappers and singers across the world.
Besides her success as a rapper, Nicki is also a formidable businesswoman. Earlier this year, the Only rapper launched her press-on nail brand - Pink Friday Nails.
Pink Friday Nails is created by the rapper in collaboration with her longtime nail artist, Yvett Garcia. Cosmetic Business reports that Garcia has helped Nicki Minaj design the press-on range and also oversees the brand's production.
Yvett Garcia is the creative director of Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday Nails
In an Instagram post uploaded on September 23, Pink Friday Nails shared a picture of Yvett Garcia attending Minaj's concert, calling her the "Creative Director" of the team.
In an interview with Essence in May 2024, Garcia talked about her bond with Nicki Minaj, saying:
"I started doing her nails about 5 years ago. When she decided to start Pink Friday she knew she wanted me to be a part of it."
Yvett also told Essence that the idea of launching a press-on nail brand hit the Anaconda rapper soon after her son's birth in 2020, adding:
"She realized there was a space for press-on nails that was different from anything else out there.”
According to a statement from Pink Friday Nails, it aims to fill the gap in the nail market by “bridging the gap between inexpensive brands with lower-quality and low-fidelity designs, and custom sets sold by nail artists on social media for hundreds of dollars.”
Minaj's press-on nail brand was profiled in The New York Post
On Wednesday, October 2, Nicki Minaj shared an Instagram post dedicated to Pink Friday Nails. The first picture of the post was a screenshot of a text message possibly sent to the rapper by her press-on nail brand team, where she was notified of the multiple milestones the brand had touched in the recent past.
In addition to winning awards from NYLON and Elle magazine, Pink Friday Nails was also profiled by The New York Post four months ago.
On May 2, 2024, The New York Post published an article about 2024 being the year of press-on nails, in which Nicki Minaj was praised as a celebrity "who avidly wears false nails," with Pink Friday Nails being profiled in the later part of the article.
The media outlet also shared the Swalla rapper's statement explaining the motivation behind the launch of her press-on nail brand, where she said:
"When I became a mom, I couldn't spend as much time getting my nails done as when I only had to worry about me, so it became a necessity to create fly, QUALITY press-on nails."
Minaj continued:
"I told my team when we started Pink Friday Nails that if I don't want to wear them, I'm not going to even ATTEMPT to sell them because our customers aren't stupid."
Revealing that she had small nail beds, the Young Money artist reassured her fans that the products sold at PinkFriday Nails were "actual nails," adding:
"Pink Friday Nails are the ACTUAL nails I wear designed by my ACTUAL nail tech. And I have VERY small nail beds, so normally press-ons are way too big and don't hit the same. Our nails come from short to the longest length I wear, in ALL shapes, all sizes, and polishes."
The article also profiled Mari by Marsai - another press-on nail brand launched by actress and film producer, Marsai Martin, two years ago.
Nicki Minaj is currently on the North American leg of her fourth headlining tour - the Pink Friday 2 tour - and will conclude in Elmont, New York on October 11.
