American rapper and radio personality Jermaine Coleman, aka Maino, recently addressed the 2008 incident in which he slapped Hitmaka during his radio interview with Angela Yee.
Earlier, in an interview with Drink Champs, Hitmaka claimed that he was never slapped. Maino called him out for lying by stating:
"You brought that up and you’re not even telling the truth. You’re making it seem like—you’re talking about I’m opening up for you. It’s all cap."
Questioning why Hitmaka decided to speak about the incident, the rapper stated that even if Hitmaka is willing to talk about it, he must at least "say the truth." Moreover, Coleman mentioned that he saw Hitmaka last year and they have moved past their feud. He also noted that he downplays the slap incident whenever it is brought up in interviews.
"Why you taking time to make up these stories?" — Maino addresses Hitmaka's claims on past feud
According to a Vibe article covering memorable fistfights in hip-hop history dated April 2011, the fight between Hitmaka and Maino took place in October 2008 when the rappers were at the same Atlanta club. As per the Poetry rapper, Hitmaka started talking recklessly and was given what Maino called "the hand of God."
Moreover, at the time, the rapper also explained his actions, stating:
"I feel like I did him a favor," he said shortly after the incident. "I tried to sober him up ’cause something was wrong with him."
Speaking with Angela Yee on her radio show Way Up, Coleman mentioned that he and Hitmaka were in a different place back then and did a lot of things they shouldn't have. He stated that he had a "lot of skirmishes and issues with a lot of people" but has moved past that. Additionally, he addressed Hitmaka by his stage name Yung Berg, and said:
"Berg, why you even speaking about this issue? We’re talking over 10 years [ago]. It’s not relevant. Why you taking time to make up these stories?"
Regarding the 2008 incident, Coleman alleged that Hitmaka wasn't "in the right state of mind" and that the slap straightened him out a little bit.
Hitmaka also addressed the feud in a 2022 appearance at Drink Champs, where he mentioned that on the day of the slap incident, he felt like Maino was trying to play him for some reason when, in reality, the rapper wasn't. Hitmaka stated that it was either rapper T.I. or someone from the record label Grand Hustle who got both rappers on a call to settle their feud.
Recalling details of the phone call, Hitmaka quoted the Million Bucks rapper's words, stating:
"Berg, I respect you, but I don’t like the people you’re hanging around. They don’t mean no good for you."
Moreover, Hitmaka also mentioned that once the phone call was over, Maino started doing interviews and talked about the incident.
Over the years, Hitmaka has admitted that he was struggling with addictions in 2008, which distorted his perception of reality and led to an unnecessary beef with Maino.
However, Hitmaka has yet to comment on the Remember My Name rapper's recent comment calling out his alleged lies.
