"Something about the synergy that me and Snoop have is really interesting": Dr. Dre

As part of the Paris Olympics closing ceremony, to mark the transition of the games to Los Angeles, the iconic duo of Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre took to the stage for a pre-recorded performance. Snoop Dogg initially performed a version of his 2004 hit Drop It Like It’s Hot.

The rapper was later joined by frequent collaborator Snoop Dogg for an incredible rendition of their 2001 super hit The Next Episode. The day after the footage was released, Dr.Dre sat down for an interview with E.T., where he recalled the whole performance. He told the publication that he felt "magical" performing alongside Snoop. Dre told the outlet:

"Something about the synergy that me and Snoop have is really interesting"

Dr. Dre explained that when they were making music together at the studio, he was the "captain." However, while on stage, Dre proclaimed that he was just the "co-star" and Snoop Dogg was the real "superstar". Dre also explained how the whole pre-taped performance, which was only filmed a day before it aired, had to be kept a secret for it to be able to work. The Still D.R.E hitmaker elaborated:

"The Olympic Committee, they handled that. I was wondering how they were gonna do that and nobody had cell phones or anything like that. It was filmed the day before it aired,"

He added:

"So trying to keep that a secret for that amount of time seems like it would've been impossible, but they made it happen!"

Moreover, this was not just another one-off collaboration. Dre told E.T. that he and Snoop were collaborating on a brand new album. The hip-hop mogul recalled how the only album he's ever produced with Snoop was the latter's 1993 debut Doggystyle, which was released more than 30 years ago.

Dr. Dre conceded that the iconic duo had done a "lot of things in between," including songs, films, and performances, but this was his first time "actually producing an entire album" with Snoop. Dre even noted that he was having a lot more fun working with Snoop on this album than the one before. He told the publication:

"We were kids at that time, you know what I mean? Snoop may have been like 18 or 19 years old and I'm, I think, I'm six years older than him. So we were kids at that time, and this one is gonna show a different level of maturity with his lyrics and with my music,"

Dr. Dre further added that this would be some of "the best music" he's ever made. Snoop Dogg's upcoming twentieth studio album, Missionary, is expected to be released sometime later this year.
