Singer-songwriter Jhene Aiko is one of the celebrities who lost her house in the California fire, as confirmed by her in two separate statements shared through her Instagram Story on January 9, 2025. As reported by The Guardian, around ten people died in the incident, with several acres of land still burning and multiple structures damaged.

Aiko also shared an Instagram post on Thursday that drew significant attention on social media. The post, which has since been deleted, was a response to negative comments stemming from a Story she posted that featured a glimpse of her destroyed house.

According to Hot New Hip Hop, netizens criticized the singer for sharing about her loss, given her wealth. In her response, Jhene Aiko wrote:

“The fact some of you think I have Paris Hilton money is wild. I don’t get it like that, but I do have a big, loving family that is worth more than anything. When I was in the 2nd grade, our home burned down with everything in it.”

Aiko said that some of the kids at her school used to be mean about the incident since they believed that she belonged to a rich family. She clarified that this was not true and continued:

“My family and our friends came together and made sure my mom and me and my siblings had at least 1 new sweat suit and 1 pair of shoes the very next day. I am fortunate enough to be in a better situation than back then. And I pray I can have as much grace as my mother did during that time.”

As reported by Celebrity Net Worth, Jhene currently has an estimated net worth of $6 million.

Jhene Aiko accumulated wealth from her music career: Earnings and other details explored

The Los Angeles, California native has built a huge fanbase through her work in the music industry. She has had the opportunity to work with record labels such as Def Jam and Epic.

These collaborations serve as Jhene Aiko's primary source of income, enabling her to acquire different properties over the years. As reported by Celebrity Net Worth, one of her homes is located at Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles and is valued at around $2.5 million. The second house, situated in Encino, California, is priced at $3.4 million.

Jhene Aiko’s career started in 2002 when she was featured in the works of other artists, including the music video for the single Take It Slow. After a long wait, her first major project, Souled Out, was released in 2014.

Notably, her debut album was initially expected to be released almost a year after she entered the music industry. However, this did not happen due to some problems with the record label, as stated by Celebrity Net Worth. In an interview with Vice magazine the previous year, Aiko addressed the delay in the project’s arrival by saying:

“I try not to be too annoyed because I feel like timing is everything and things happen for a reason. I’m putting out the EP knowing that the album is done so I’m like, ‘Ahh, I wish this was the album I was putting out.’ But I think it’s a good thing because I think the EP gets people familiar with me, and used to hearing the features with the rappers – I have so many features on the EP.”

In another conversation with People magazine about two years ago, Jhene Aiko expressed her happiness since her music was able to help people deal with their mental health issues. She said that she had a similar experience while preparing her music and added:

“Since the time I could write really, I’ve been dealing with my emotions through writing. That was always my way of getting through difficult things.”

Jhene Aiko has two more albums in her credits, including Trip and Chilombo, alongside an EP, Sail Out. She has also released several hit singles like The Worst, The Pressure, Spotless Mind, B.S., and more.
