John Legend announces children’s album produced by Sufjan Stevens: Release date, pre-release single & all you need to know

John Legend has announced a new Sufjan Stevens produced children's album, titled My Favorite Dream, set to be released on August 30, 2024 via Republic Records.

The album was announced by Legend via a post on their official Instagram page on August 9, 2024, stating in his announcement:

"I've been working on something very special and close to my heart, and I'm excited to share it with you. You know how important music is to me and our family. You might remember when Chrissy & I posted a video of me singing to Esti my version of "Maybe," the Purple Monkey song from the @fisherprice Piano Gym."

The singer continued:

"When we posted it, many of you wished I would sing more lullabies & songs for your kids. Fisher-Price even reached out to collaborate on some music.I decided to go all in and make a whole album of sing-alongs & lullabies for kids and families. I sat at our family piano and wrote 9 original songs full of the messages we share with our kids -"

"- words of encouragement, comfort, love, togetherness, imagination, exploration, and GOING TO SLEEP ! I also covered 2 popular classics ("Three Little Birds" & "You Are My Sunshine") and recorded a few bonus tracks from the Fisher-Price repertoire. I'm thrilled to introduce you to my new album: My Favorite Dream."

The album is available for pre save from Legend's official socials' bio. The first single of the album, L-O-V-E feat Chrissy Legend as well as his two children Luna, & Miles, is currently available from streaming from YouTube and Spotify.

In his announcement, John Legend further elaborated on the album and his collaboration with Sufjan Stevens:

"As I was writing the songs & envisioning what they could sound like fully arranged, I thought, "I wonder if @sufjan would make a children's album with me!" I've loved Sufjan's music for nearly 20 years. He's such a visionary artist, and I knew he would create the dreamy, whimsical soundscapes I wanted. So I reached out. And he said YES."

The singer went on to describe his excitement on the album being produced by Sufjan Stevens, stating that he was proud and glad that Stevens had given his musical talents. The album cover was made by Luna.

My Favorite Dream will be John Legend's first new album since 2022's Legend. The album was inspired by the singer's own children and family life as well as his own life Kid.

John Legend is performing acros North America as part of the An Evening With John Legend: A Night of Songs and Stories. The tour is set to end on October 13, 2024.

Apart from the tour, the singer will also perform with several orchestra in between, from the San Diego Symphony Orchestra to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, among others.
