On July 10, 2024, a lawsuit was filed against Josh Klinghoffer, a former member of the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers. The court documents have accused him of killing a pedestrian after reportedly running over him in Los Angeles on March 18, 2024.
The musician has worked with many bands over the years and was featured in other artists' songs. As per Celebrity Net Worth, his net worth currently stands at $10 million.
Notably, the accident victim was identified as Israel Sanchez. Josh Klinghoffer was traveling to the grocery store to prepare soup for his family members when he allegedly ran over Sanchez. The victim's daughter, Ashley, has now approached the Los Angeles Superior Court to sue Josh.
Ashley is now seeking damages and a trial for everything that happened. She is additionally requesting that the expenses of the funeral, burial, and hospital bills should be covered accordingly.
The legal documents stated that the artist was reportedly using a device and became distracted, and he was turning to the left when he hit Israel. Sanchez was injured in the head, and although he was taken to the hospital, he was pronounced dead in a few hours.
Josh Klinghoffer has accumulated a lot of wealth from his career
The public has always praised the Santa Monica, California native's work in the musical world. His association with Red Hot Chili Peppers and other popular groups helped him to become the owner of different assets over the years.
Josh Klinghoffer became interested in music at a very young age. In an interview with Artist Waves in 2021, he revealed that the first instrument where he became an expert was the piano, and it is the only instrument to which he developed an attraction in a short period.
"I love writing on piano because it's the most foreign to me. I was a drummer when I was a kid, that was my first instrument. Then I taught myself guitar and bass came with that. Piano is the most exotic to me," he said.
Josh was only 17 when he started working with different bands. The first was The Bicycle Thief, and he later joined musician John Frusciante, pursuing his career as a songwriter. He also continued his contributions as a drummer, vocalist, and guitarist to successful projects such as A Sphere in the Heart of Silence.
Josh Klinghoffer had previously worked with CeeLo Green member Gnarls Barkley. But he gained recognition as a member of Red Hot Chili Peppers, and he began performing with them in 2007, alongside being credited for two of their albums, I'm with You and The Getaway.
In 2008, he established another band named Dot Hacker, which has four albums in the credits. He slowly began to focus on his solo career, releasing an album, To Be One With You, in 2019, followed by I Don't Feel Well and This Is the Show.
Josh Klinghoffer's attorney shares his side of the story
As mentioned, Josh was sued on charges of reportedly running over a man named Israel Sanchez. While he has not been arrested until now, his attorney, Andrew Brettler, claimed in a statement that his client immediately got in touch with 911 and did not leave the spot until the authorities arrived to take care of everything.
Meanwhile, Israel's daughter Ashley expressed her grief while speaking to People magazine, describing her father as a talented individual in her family.
"His smile was so infectious. His life was taken by a careless act of a person who didn't bother to look where he was driving," she said.
People magazine also acquired a video where a black vehicle can be spotted hitting Israel. While the car's driver is seen coming out, as mentioned by Josh Klinghoffer's attorney, there is no confirmation if the person in the video is Josh.
On the other hand, Ashley launched a GoFundMe page and wrote in the description that the car driver attempted to run away from the scene but was stopped. She is requesting funds to cover medical and funeral expenses. The page aims to collect $31,000. Donations worth $3,398 have been made so far.
