Kanye West & Ty Dolla $ign's Vultures 2 was supposed to be released in March
Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign's Vultures 2 album was supposed to be released just a month after the release of their first album, Vultures 1 in February 2024. The second album would have been part of a trilogy, according to the original plan for the project. The album also missed its second release date of May 3, 2024.
However, that did not happen, with Kanye West embroiled in controversy over the years for his antisemitism and more recent problems on the planned world tour, with major live event organization Live Nation refusing to work with him.
In a recent interview with Billboard Magazine on June 20, 2024, Ty Dolla $ign provided an update on the status of Vultures 2 album, with the singer responding to whether the duo would sell the album directly to their fans,
"Why not? Switch it up. He’s always got something up his sleeve. I always got some[thing] up my sleeve. We got all the songs. Basically, it’s just like, ‘How can we get it there? How can we go bigger than the first album? Certain people will probably expect you to just do the same exact sound. But that sound’s already out."
Since that interview, the only update on the album has been the announcement of two listening experiences, one in Korea on August 23, 2024, and the other in Taiwan mentioned above.
The album's details are still unknown, but one track is confirmed to be on the album. Titled Ye About Mine, formerly known as Let Me Chill Out, the track features performances by NBA Youngboy, Rich The Kid, and Takeoff.
Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign's Vultures 1 also experienced similar delays before it was finally released on February 10, 2024. The album was first supposed to be released in 2023 but was pushed back due to 2024 production issues.
In the same interview quoted above, Ty Dolla $ign also elaborated on Vultures 1's production and recording, detailing how the album was produced in multiple countries,
"Japan was hotel rooms, Italy was hotel rooms. Then we got Sting to let us use his [Italian] villa. At first we were just recording in the living room, recording by the pool, setting up recording equipment out there, and then we found out that there’s an actual recording studio there. It’s a very expensive album, I will say that."
Vultures 1 was a major success once it was released. The album became a chart-topper on album charts such as Billboard 200, Kiwi Album Chart, and Australian Album Chart, among others. It has also been certified gold in Denmark and New Zealand.
The album featured collaborations with artists such as Kanye West's daughter North West, YG, Quavo, Playboi Carti, and Chris Brown, among others. Timbaland and Kaytranada produce the album.
