The tour was announced almost a month after the arrival of her latest album, Crash. The project has received praise from different publications and reached the 25th spot on the US Billboard 200 and UK Albums Sales.
Kehlani's fourth album was released in June 2024: Soundtrack and other details explained
The Oakland, California native's latest project, Crash, came out on June 21 this year. She confirmed the release date the previous month through her Instagram page where she added a cover art, featuring her on top of a damaged car. She was wearing a metallic outfit in the picture and wrote below the photo:
"Crash 6.21.24 the album."
Although the soundtrack has 13 songs, After Hours has managed to accumulate a different fanbase among the public. The single came out back on April 4, 2024, and grabbed the 72nd spot on the US Billboard Hot 100.
She appeared for a conversation with Zane Lowe on Apple Music in May 2024, saying that she was heavily influenced by the song Move Your Body by Nina Sky as she prepared for After Hours. She further stated:
"Coming out of this pandemic to global tragedy, to global tragedy, to global tragedy… I want my art to provide some kind of life and fun, and I want to go outside. I want to hear this outside and I want to feel good."
In another interview with Essence Magazine last month, Ashley Parrish said that she is "just gonna talk and not hold back" in the new album. Kehlani added that she would talk in the same way she would speak to her best friend and continued:
'For a long time, I've been not afraid of how I've been perceived musically, but I had a lot of being very apologetic in my personhood, for who I am, for anything I've done, for anything I had to be corrected on for any way I've shown up in the world."
Crash arrived around two years after the release of Kehlani's third album, Blue Water Road. Released in 2022, the album had multiple special appearances from artists such as Justin Bieber and Jessie Reyez.
