Keith Urban caught fans by surprise this Friday, August 16, when he hosted a free pop-up show at a Buc-ee's gas station & convenience store in Alabama. The unexpected show featured Keith performing for a crowd of thousands at the 2328 Lindsay Lane S. store in Athens.
The Grammy-winning country music singer took to Facebook on the afternoon of August 16 and announced the surprise pop-up show. The post revealed that the show would be held in the parking lot of the Athens Buc-ee's at 8 pm on the same day.
The show's flier posted on social media mentioned Keith's name along with "Live @Buc-ee’s" and was titled "How I Got Here." The short text on the flier read:
“We’ll see ya outside in the parking lot. It’s gonna be a blast.”
While most details about the show remain under wraps, it is confirmed that Keith Urban performed on a small stage set up at the promised venue. The pop-up came on the head of his upcoming album, High, set for a global release next month, September 20.
Keith Urban thanked his fans who turned up at his pop-up concert at Buc-ee’s Alabama
Keith Urban's pop-up concert at the Buc-ee's in Athens came on short notice, but couldn't stop a large crowd from pulling up at the gas station. Country music fans and residents of all ages started appearing at the parking lot as early as 3 pm on Friday.
As per the official Facebook page for the City of Athens, over 5,500 people attended the concert. During the event, Keith Urban mentioned how he came to the Athens Buc-ee's a month ago and thought of doing a show there:
"I came down to this Buc-ee's about a month ago, and when I left I went - it will be kinda fun to do a show there. And so, this is my caveman brain, right? So I'm like, oh it'll be fun. We'll set up a little stage and some people will come around and hear us play."
Seemingly stunned by the unexpectedly large crowd attending the pop-up show, he added:
"I swear to you I thought maybe a 100 or 200 people. That's why we got this little stage, the little lights, and the little PA system. This is freaking me out, so thank you very much for coming out."
Before starting the show, Keith spent some time behind the Buc-ee's counter and chopped some fresh brisket. The singer donned a Buc-ee's t-shirt, jeans, a black wristband, featuring the words 'HIGH,' and a brown hat.
Keith Urban took over the parking lot stage in the same outfit. He was joined by a crew of two guitarists, a drummer, and a backup singer. The crew performed the intimate show backed by waving phone flashlights and excited cheers from the audience.
Keith left no stone unturned to entertain the audience and had them grooving to ever-green hits. He performed songs like - Go Home W U, Raining On Sunday, Sweet Home Alabama, Days Go By, and What If I Fall, among others. The singer also played his latest single, Heart Like A Hometown, at the pop-up show.
High is the thirteenth studio album of Keith Urban's long-spanning country music career. It will be his first release in four years and will be supported by a Las Vegas residency that begins on October 4 and ends on October 12.
The album is preceded by the single, Wildside, which came out on June 28. The second song from the album, Heart Like a Hometown, was dropped on August 2.
