On July 14, Canadian rapper Drake shared a picture of himself lying flat on his bed with his arms wide apart on Instagram. He appeared to be smoking what looked like a joint or cigarette while resting next to a plethora of plushies, including those of aliens and a giant teddy bear. The text on his T-shirt read, "RAP IS A JOKE."
The Jimmy Cooks rapper captioned his post:
"The pressure from being on top does more than just make your ears pop."
As he made the post on Instagram, social media users rallied together to troll him. Netizens frequently mentioned Kendrick Lamar, acknowledging that Lamar defeated the rapper in their diss track battle. One X user wrote:
Some users opined that the rapper was being "corny." Here are a few X reactions in this regard:
"Meanwhile Not Like Us still breaking records….," one X user noted.
"Welp. I guess the caged bird sings," another user referencing Lamar's music video for Not Like Us said.
"The levels of corny are off the charts with this one," one social media user commented.
""Rap is a Joke" Teddy Bear in a mans bed?? Hmmmm #nooticing," a suspicious X user added.
Despite the trolling and backlash, a few users still showcased their support for the Calling For You rapper. Fans opined that Drizzy was still the "goat" and claimed that he was not bothered by Kendrick Lamar's antics:
"Drake won the beef, but respect to kendrick. He fought hard," one X user commented.
"drake never left the no 1 spot, every other artist can only wish to have a career like his🐐," another social media user praised.
"Drake is such the goat 😭👑," another X user gushed.
"He's not even bothered, and Kenny is out doing full press runs to capture any remaining relevance he can squeeze out 😭," one Drake fan explained.
Serena William took shots at Drake at ESPY Awards
Tennis legend Serena Williams took some shots at Drizzy at the ESPY Awards in Los Angeles on Thursday, July 11. Williams, who hosted the 2024 ESPYs, shared some advice while she was on stage. Williams announced:
"And if I've learned anything this year, it’s that none of us, not a single one of us, not even me, should ever pick a fight with Kendrick Lamar."
The former Tennis pro started crip walking on stage as Lamar's Not Like Us started playing and further added:
"He (Lamar) will make your hometown not like you, the next time Drake sits courtside at a Raptors game, they're gonna Forest Gump him, seats taken."
Williams continued crip walking as the crowd cheered her on. Earlier, during a panel discussion for the New Orleans Essence Fest, the Compton native announced that Not Like Us was the "hit of the summer." She also referenced Kendrick's successful Juneteenth Pop Out show and added:
"You definitely Crip walking in that song. It’s so cool what he did though. Bringing everyone to the stage? That was incredible … I couldn’t believe it."
Meanwhile, during a Wednesday, July 10, showcase match between Team USA and Team Canada in Las Vegas, Team USA celebrated their victory by piling onto Drake's misery and playing Not Like Us.
