Ashlee Simpson performed at the Evita nightclub in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, on July 20, 2024, her first live performance since 2020. Simpson's return to music was celebrated by her sister, Jessica Simpson, who took to Instagram to gush over her sister's return, stating in a post featuring a clip of the performance on July 21, 2024:

"I woke up this mornin’ cryin’ like a fan girl nerd sister watchin’ this from last night!!! You are a fu**in’ rockstar Ash! You looked, sounded, and moved like you never missed a day on stage."

The actress and singer continued:

"It was simply EPIC! What a beautiful moment with all of your back up singers (the entire crowd)…CHILLS…You were born for this! Make a record asap! Let’s tour together and take the kids!"

The clip in the Instagram post shows Ashlee Simpson playing songs such as Boyfriend from her 2005 album I Am Me and Pieces of Me from her 2004 album Autobiography, among other hit songs from the early years of her career.

Jessica Simpson is also a well-known musician, even though she has been focused on motherhood and other business ventures in recent years. The elder of the Simpson siblings has a total of seven albums in her career, with an eighth under works.

Jessica Simpson's three children are Maxwell Drew, Ace Knute, and Birdie Mae. Drew is 12 years old, Knute is 11 years old and Mae is 5 years old. Ashlee Simpson's three children are Bronx Mowgli, Jagger Snow, and Ziggy Blue. They are aged 15, 8, and 3, respectively.

Ashlee Simpson is working on new music

Ashlee Simpson recently spoke to Stereogum in an interview on the 20th anniversary of Autobiography and the release of the expanded edition of the album on July 19, 2024. In the interview, published on July 18, 2024, the singer confirmed that she was making new music, stating:

"Right now I’m working song by song, and then we’ll see. I’m sure it’ll end up turning into an album. But [I’m] just enjoying the process, getting back to the studio and enjoying writing again"

She added that the music had a rock music vibe, in response to a question on what vibe her new music would take:

"I’ve grown up now, so it’s a little bit more grown, and at the moment, it’s been more with live music, so I feel like the direction can always turn, but I’m really happy with where we’re at right now. [It’s] more of the fun, rocky vibe."
