In the aftermath of Lil Durk’s arrest for the alleged murder-for-hire plot against Quando Rondo, a viral claim erupted on TikTok that the Chicago rapper could face the electric chair. Several TikTokers, including @indecisivequan and @freedurkio._, shared such speculations. The former uploaded a short clip with the text,

“Yb in jail, Thug in jail, Durk getting the electric chair, this Rod Wave last album. Drake getting old, who tf we going to listen to now?”

Likewise, the latter uploaded a GIF where a boy appeared to be shocked/surprised and was captioned,

There are no official reports that Lil Durk would get the electric chair, aka execution by electrocution.

Notably, California, where Durk is currently facing his murder-for-hire charge, does not support capital punishment, as per a standing 2006 federal order and a 2019 moratorium on the death penalty issued by Governor Gavin Newsom.

All you need to know about Lil Durk’s current legal troubles

On October 25, Lil Durk, whose real name is Devontay Durk Banks, was taken into federal custody in South Florida by U.S. Marshals following an indictment in Los Angeles. He was picked up after the U.S. Customs and Border Protection notified the feds that the rapper had two international flights booked, one from Miami to Dubai and another from Fort Lauderdale to Switzerland.

Durk reportedly had another flight booked on a private jet from Miami to Italy. However, as per official reports, he was arrested “in the vicinity of the departing airport” an hour before take-off. Subsequently, he was detained at the Broward County Jail to be extradited to California, where he is facing the charge of an alleged murder-for-hire plot against Quando Rondo.

For the unversed, Rondo was attacked by a group comprising five male assailants at a Los Angeles gas station in August 2022. While he and his sister escaped unharmed, his cousin Saviay’a Robinson, aka Lul Pab, was shot and killed.

As per the federal indictment against Durk, he masterminded the plan to murder Quando Rondo and put out a hit on him using five members of his Only The Family (OTF) record collective. The bounty was reportedly a retaliation for the November 2020 murder of Durk’s friend, collaborator, mentee, and OTF associate, King Von, who died in Atlanta after an altercation with Rondo’s crew.

A day before Durk was arrested, five members of OTF were also taken into custody from their hometown, Chicago. They were Kavon London Grant, aka Vonnie/ Cuz; Deandre Dontrell Wilson, aka DeDe; Keith Jones, aka Flacka; David Brian Lindsey, aka Browneyez; and Asa Houston, aka Boogie.

They were also scheduled to be transported to California for further legal proceedings. However, just like Lil Durk was arraigned in Florida, they were also arraigned in Chicago following the arrests.

According to the indictment, the five suspects used rental cars, flights, and other services to commit the crime, all paid by credit cards affiliated with OTF. Reportedly, the men agreed to the alleged murder-for-hire plot in exchange for “lucrative music opportunities” allegedly offered to them by a high-ranking OTF member.

The court document also alleged that an anonymous OTF member worked as a federal informant for years, which reportedly helped them build the case against Lil Durk. Feds have also accused OTF of having alleged gang connections.
