Nigerian rapper Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27, after he was treated for infection by an unlicensed nurse, as confirmed by BBC. The rapper's sister-in-law Karimot recently took to TikTok on August 12, 2024, and alleged that his wife (her sister Wunmi) knew the real cause of his death.

Karimot stated that the time Mohbad died, the couple got into a terrible fight, damaging a railing in the rapper's house. Moreover, she added that the fight was what led him to go to the hospital, which eventually resulted in his death.

Karimot also alleged that Wunmi's mother had advised her to get married within a year of the rapper's death and Wunmi stole his phone from his mother and refused to return it along with the phones collected for evidence. Moreover, Karimot shared that Wunmi has opened an account in her mother's name wherein Mohbad's funds are diverted.

Mohbad's family urges fans not to celebrate late rapper's death anniversary

In October 2023, BBC reported that Mohbad injured himself in a fight with his childhood friend Oluwatosin Owoduni on September 10, 2023, during which the late rapper cut his hand trying to smash Owoduni but instead smashed into a car window.

Following the injury, he complained of pain, owing to which another one of his friends called a nursing assistant at home to treat the rapper. As per Lagos State Police Command commissioner Idowu Owohunwa, the nursing assistant injected the rapper with three different drugs, leading to his death.

With Mohbad's first death anniversary right around the corner, fans and organizations have been planning to celebrate the occasion. However, the rapper's family has expressed discontent toward the same through a statement signed off by a member of the rapper's legal team, Monisola Odumosu.

According to the statement obtained by PUNCH Metro, the family of the late singer stated:

“It has come to the attention of the Aloba family that some organisations have been planning to celebrate the first anniversary of the death of our late son and singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (Mohbad). The Aloba family wishes to appeal to such interest groups to suspend such ideas."

The statement highlighted that since the rapper is yet to be buried, the family would like for the public to join them in prayers at his first death anniversary instead of organizing an elaborate event.

Moreover, the family stated that individuals and organizations should take their approval before proceeding with plans to celebrate Mohbad's first death anniversary, indicating that certain firms might be doing it for commercial benefit. The statement also mentioned:

"The Aloba family would not wish the goodwill of their illustrious son to be employed for commercial purposes,”

In other news, the rapper's sister-in-law Karimot apologized to the rapper's father in May 2024 after his autopsy. She apologized for everything she might have posted or said on her platform and wished the Nigerian singer's family the best, stating she didn't want to be involved further.

Additionally, this is not the first time Karimot has said something negative about Wunmi. She has previously stated that they belong to different fathers and that she has cut all ties with Wunmi.
