Fans claimed that J. Cole and Vince Staples are the two best rappers of the last 15 years
On the April 10 episode of The Joe Budden Podcast, Vince was asked to comment on the beef and how the music industry takes advantage of it without truly helping.
During the same, the Long Beach native was further asked about his thoughts on J. Cole's latest apology. In addition, he was questioned about his thoughts on the growing tension between Drake and Kendrick Lamar.
The host here made reference to J. Cole's apology on Sunday, April 7, regarding Kendrick Lamar's diss track. In their April 8 article, the New York Times also reported that Cole expressed regret for releasing a diss track about Kendrick Lamar, claiming he felt "terrible," and he promised to either edit the song, 7 Minute Drill or take it off from streaming services.
On the podcast episode, Staples clarified that he didn’t really care about these things. Rather, he stated that obtaining publication for artists was more important to him.
As Budden started to press him on the subject, Staples responded that according to him, the beef is only a diversion from the real issue, which is artist unity.
In the same podcast episode, he criticized Spotify's billboard in Times Square that highlighted the feud between J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, and Drake, calling it unnecessary. The billboard, displayed in May, suggested Hip Hop was a competitive sport amid K. Dot’s battle with Cole and Drake.
Despite this, fans still took sides in the alleged rap battle. Some supported Staples, believing his albums are better than J. Cole's, while others sided with Cole, claiming his music is superior. Some fans remained neutral.
Meanwhile, after the war of the tweets, neither Vince Staples, nor J Cole said anything about the whole thing.
