Dijon Isaiah McFarlane, a.k.a. DJ Mustard, and ex-wife Chanel Thierry have recently reached a divorce settlement. According to a Monday, October 14, 2024, report by TMZ, the record producer's attorney, Samantha Spector, helped him walk away with a bunch of pricey assets, including cars and properties.
The pair share the legal custody of their three children, with DJ Mustard paying $24,500 a month in child support. Chanel gets a $315,000 one-time payment for spousal support from her ex with an additional $275,000 in a one-time equalization payment.
As news of DJ Mustard and Chanel's divorce settlement spread, internet users were quick to express their disbelief. @Globalstats11 stated:
"They should have a cap on child support. 24k a month is hitman money."
Many remarked the amount of money was "ridiculous," adding that Chanel would be pocketing all the money. Others even wrongly stated that the estranged couple shared only one child. Here are some comments seen on X:
"why would you need $24,000 a month to support a single child?" one commented.
"I find it ridiculous because you know damn well his baby momma is gonna be pocketing $24,000 of that each month," another wrote.
"$24k child support? Who tf be judging these cases" @FreeAgen_ added.
However, others noted that those who were shocked by the amount or were blaming Chanel do not know the whole story or understand how child support works.
"He most likely spent that much on them while they were together, you want the kids lifestyle to change?" a user stated.
"Once again, a bunch of men, who refuse to use google to understand how child support works, are denigrating a woman who was with a man before he blew up & become famous & gave him three children. He legit got off so easy, especially with the 1 time spousal support payment & 1 time lump sum payment. He also is keeping almost all of the appreciating assets (like the various properties). Come on yall. Seriously?," @PaigeSavXO explained.
"Justice was served. I feel so bad for my girl Chanel she really held this nigga down gave him like 3 kids discovered Ella Mai and told him to sign one of his biggest artist all for him to cheat on her with a look alike. Some men are just weirdos," another wrote.
"All of my business is in the blogs"- Chanel breaks her silence on divorce settlement with DJ Mustard
According to the report by TMZ, in the divorce settlement, DJ Mustard hangs onto his fleet of luxury cars, which includes a 2022 Maybach Benz, a 2018 Lamborghini Aventador, a 2022 Cadillac Escalade, a 2022 Rolls-Royce Cullinan, and a 2019 Lamborghini Urus. He additionally keeps a 1960 Chevy Impala, 4 different motorcycles, and a couple of Sea-Doo jet skis.
The record producer's settlement allowed him to keep the mansion in Chatsworth, CA, and other residential properties in Simi Valley and Los Angeles. He also keeps the rights to his music catalog.
Chanel Thierry, on the other hand, gets to hang on to her business Sleep Ova, a pajama and loungewear company, and a Tesla Model X.
DJ Mustard and Chanel had been together since they were 19. The pair got engaged in 2018 and married in October 2020. They share three kids together: Kiylan, Kauner, and Kody.
After less than a year and a half of marriage, DJ Mustard filed for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences."
After news of the development made headlines, Chanel Thierry took to Threads to break her silence on the matter. She explained that they had actually settled back in July, but things only made news now, writing:
"Now, the week I turn the car back to its owner, all of my business is in the blogs. Of course, I know these things are public info, i got that part but the fact I knew u would be so petty to let everyone know you "took the car" and acted as of my back CS was payment for the car, and it's not."
She continued to call DJ Mustard out for using his PR team to make her "look bad for two years." She added, "Please leave me alone and stop using me for publicity and record sales."
Chanel claimed that after DJ Mustard filed for divorce in May 2022, he alleged he had cancer to make her stay with him. She explained that she didn't leave their home till July of the same year. The businesswoman shared screenshots of her alleged conversation with her ex as proof.
This is not the first time Chanel has accused the record producer of trying to "demolish" her name. Last December, in a series of Threads posts, she alleged:
"The world has watched you uplift me as a mother and wife and now because you decided to leave and try to replace me and it didn’t work. You want to demolish my name!? It’s disgusting. The nerve to have me fighting for custody because you are so bitter and don’t want to pay CS. I sat in the house YEARS watching them kids while you toured the world!"
DJ Mustard at the time responded on Instagram stories, writing, "Its been a year and a half man..." He even reposted a meme where the man states, "This b**ch keep bothering me and bothering me and bothering me" with the caption "It won't stop."
Since their separation, DJ Mustard has been dating Brittany Stroud, with whom he welcomed a daughter this year. He has not commented on the development.
