New details surrounding Lil Durk's recent arrest reveal that the rapper, born Durk Devontay Banks, was apprehended in Florida while attempting to board a private jet bound for Italy on October 24.
Following a notification from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, federal agents detained Banks an hour before his flight's departure "in the vicinity of the departing airport".
Lil Durk is reportedly being held in the Broward County Jail on charges of alleged involvement in a murder-for-hire case related to a 2022 fatal shooting, targeting rapper Quando Rondo.
A federal indictment, unsealed on Thursday, names Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston, as supposed members of Banks' OTF collective. According to prosecutors, Durk allegedly incentivized a hit on Rondo, which resulted in the death of Lul Pab.
Lil Durk and others linked to the 2022 Los Angeles drive-by shooting face the following charges:
- One count of conspiracy
- Use of interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death
- Use, carrying, possession, and discharge of firearms, including a machine gun, in furtherance of a violent crime resulting in death.
Akademiks TV and HNHH report that if convicted, Lil Durk could potentially face the death penalty, given Florida's legislature on Capital Punishment, or face a maximum of life behind bars.
Today (October 26), DJ Akademiks took to Instagram to share a post from the Chicago Tribune, which reveals the new details surrounding Durk's attempt to flee the country.
The post sparked extensive discussions about the OTF CEO's arrest, with one individual comparing Banks' situation to Young Thug's ongoing YSL-RICO trial. According to the information available, Young Thug faces a potential five to 20-year prison sentence, if convicted.
"30 years minimum?! He's in a worse position [than] Thugga is" - A user commented.
"Bro had a master plan planned out and failed miserably" - Added another.
"A 30 piece is a life sentence" - A user claimed.
While some individuals mocked Lil Durk's arrest, several fans voiced their support for the OTF CEO, asserting he's innocent until proven guilty.
"No way in hell Durk is speaking to anybody directly about a hit... I don't believe it till I see or hear it" - A fan cited.
"Free Smurk. Bro ain't even do nothing" - Another chimed in.
"I don't believe Bruh was planning to flee because of this case. This is just the narrative they go with to try and ensure the person gets no bail when they feel he's a threat to society" - A fan claimed.
Lil Durk appears in court over charges related to a "murder-for-hire" investigation
Grammy-winning rapper Lil Durk made his first federal court appearance on the day of his arrest, Friday (October 25), in Florida's Southern District.
According to a spokesperson from California's U.S. Attorney's office, where the charges have been filed, Durk is expected to be arraigned in Los Angeles within the coming weeks.
"Mr. Banks is charged with orchestrating a cold-blooded murder that resulted in the death of a rival’s family member. The shooting occurred in the open, at a gas station at a busy intersection, endangering many others in the area...we will have zero-tolerance for those who perpetrate such callous acts of violence." - U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada stated.
Lil Durk has now been revealed to be the suspect previously identified as "Co-Conspirator 1," in the October 17 indictment which charged five Chicago individuals for the murder of Lul Pab, in 2022.
According to a criminal complaint, before his arrest, Durk, who was in Fort Lauderdale at the time, had supposedly booked international travel to Dubai and Switzerland but didn't board either of the flights.
The FBI supposedly received information about Banks charting a private jet to Italy, which resulted in the rapper's arrest an hour before the flight's scheduled departure at 9:00 p.m. Florida Time.
Federal investigators have also claimed that several "witnesses and their family members" have been contacted and received threats in attempts to influence their participation in the OTF-murder investigation.
Quando Rondo, an associate of Lul Timm -- who shot and killed OTF member King Von in 2020 -- released a new track today titled Life Goes On. The record's production resembles elements from Lil Durk's Grammy-winning single All My Life (feat. J. Cole).
