"$40k for a 1 year old?" — Netizens react to DDG asking his fans to watch his vlog with ads to help him fund his son's party

American rapper and YouTuber DDG, aka Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr. shared a tweet on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday, December 19, 2024. In the tweet, the rapper seemed to be requesting his fans to watch the ads in his vlog instead of skipping them. He wrote:

"My son party cost $40k. When i post this vlog can yall watch it & not skip no ads?"

The tweet gained massive traction on social media with about 2 million views and more than 43k likes, within 24 hours since it was uploaded. Netizens didn't hold back their reactions to the tweet.

Another user tweeted:

"You should’ve thought about that before booking a 40k party."

"Did anybody force you to and pay 40k," questioned another netizen.

"40k on a party he won’t ever remember is a choice," stated a user.

While several netizens bashed the rapper for throwing a party that was apparently something he couldn't afford until people watched ads, many others stated that they would support him, particularly for his kid. A user tweeted:

"You asking for a lot, but since it’s nap birthday. Sure"

"We will be there goat 🐐🍯," stated another one.

"Consider it done. Supporting your vlog and those ads is the least we can do for all the hard work you’ve poured into this," explained a netizen.

For the unaware, DDG and Halle welcomed their first child, Halo, on December 22, 2023. They had a child little more than a year after they officially became a couple.

The former couple who had officially been dating since January 2022, welcomed a son during the period of their relationship, and then broke up as well. They reportedly went to watch Usher's concert where DDG was further seen having his arm around Halle Bailey.

In June the same year, the former couple made their red carpet debut at the BET Awards. Bailey then told Extra:

"I have my boo with me today. We’re so excited. We’re gonna have so much fun just supporting Chloe [for her solo performance]. It’ll be great!"

Since then, they had attended several events together including Variety’s Power of Young Hollywood Event in L.A, the 5th annual Wearable Art Gala, and the premiere event of the Avatar 2: The Way of Water.

In December 2023, DDG and Halle gave birth to their child Halo. After several ups and downs in the relationship, the former couple finally split up in October 2024, about eight months after Halo's birth. After the break up, the duo chose to co-parent their son.

On October 3, 2024, DDG was the one who first revealed that they had broken up. DDG further claimed that despite being separated, they would always have the love for each other.
