Ringo Starr, the drummer of the iconic band The Beatles, has canceled the final two dates of his tour after falling ill. The 84-year-old and his All Starr Band were in the midst of the tour when the rocker came down with a cold, leading him to take the doctor's advice and cancel the remaining shows.
The news was confirmed on Tuesday, September 24, in a press release from Starr's team.
"Ringo has come down with a cold and after consulting a doctor he was advised to cancel these two remaining shows and get rest," the statement read.
The performances that were called off were slated for Tuesday evening in Philadelphia at TD Pavilion in Mann Center for the Performing Arts, and Wednesday evening in New York's legendary Radio City Music Hall. Ticket holders will get full refunds.
Ringo Starr stays positive and focused on new projects despite tour setback
Ringo Starr's press release concluded on a hopeful note, with the former Beatle member sending well wishes to his fans.
"As always, Ringo and the All Starrs send peace and love to their fans and hope to see them soon," the press statement said.
This break came after Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band performed 10 concerts, as part of their fall tour which began on September 7 in San Diego. Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band was founded in 1989. The supergroup has acclaimed musicians such as Colin Hay, Steve Lukather, Edgar Winter, Hamish Stuart, Gregg Bissonette, and Warren Ham.
Last week, Starr shared an Instagram post about his latest tour and wrote:
"Just want to thank all the great audiences so far — I love you all. Peace & love from Ringo and the boys."
Speaking to People Magazine in 2022, Ringo Starr shared his thoughts on aging and maintaining a youthful spirit.
"Nothing makes me feel old. In my head, I'm 27," Starr said, adding, "Wisdom's a heavy word. Getting older is what happens, and you try and keep yourself busy."
The octogenarian explained in the same interview why staying upbeat has always come naturally to him.
"I never felt really down," he shared. "I mean, I have my moments, of course. But my spirits are high. That's all I can say, really."
Ringo Starr's upcoming work
While fans will have to wait to see Starr on stage again, the musician continues to work on new projects. Reportedly, he is working on a country album with producer T Bone Burnett, with more details expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.
This album will add to his extensive discography. In April this year, he released Crooked Boy, his fifth EP. It featured four tracks all written and produced by Linda Perry.
