American rapper A$ap Rocky is staying away from drama, especially when it does not involve him directly. In the August 22 cover story of Billboard featuring the artist, he gave a glimpse of his personal and professional life.
The music world is mostly aware of the clash between Kendrick Lamar and Drake but the rapper said he tried to stay away from it. For A$ap Rocky, it’s about the bigger picture. He said:
“You got to realize, certain n—as was throwing shots for years. I ain’t in the middle of that s–t. That’s not how I retaliate right now. I got bigger fish to fry than some p—y boys. It is real beef outside. It is real. N—as getting really clipped and blitzed every day. N—as sniping n—as every day. That little kitty s–t ain’t about nothing.”
According to A$ap Rocky, the feud holds no meaning as the real hustle is in the real world. The rivalry between the two rappers Lamar and Drake brought out multiple diss tracks.
For instance, Drake’s Family Matters, Taylor Made Freestyle, and Push Ups. Similarly, Lamar’s tracks include Meet the Grahams, Euphoria, and Not Like Us, among others.
A$ap Rocky and Drake reportedly dissed each other in previous releases
On April 12, rapper Future and record producer Metro Boomin’s We Still Don’t Trust You was released which featured artists like A$ap Rocky. In one of the songs from the album Show of Hands, the rapper allegedly left a critical remark for Drake’s For All the Dogs album which reportedly did not see a hit after its release.
The lyrics also included a section in which the rapper boasted about being intimate with a woman, alleged to be Drake's baby mama. A$ap Rocky rapped:
“Ni**** in they feelings over women, what, you hurt or something?/ I smash before you birthed, son, Flacko hit it first, son/ Still don’ trust you, it’s always us, never them/ Heard you dropped your latest s*** Funny how it just came and went.”
Drake criticized the rapper whose real name is Rakim Meyers through his track Family Matters released on May 4, although it was mainly targeted at Kendrick Lamar.
As per a report by Guardian Life in May 2024, the song called out Meyers for what he had said about Drake earlier. Its lyrics had lines in which Drake talked about his relationship with Rihanna.
"Rakim talkin' s**t again, Gassed 'cause you hit my BM first. N***a, do the math, who I was hittin' then?" Drake rapped in Family Matters.
Meanwhile Rocky and Drake have previously worked together on F***in' Problems in 2012. Currently, Rocky's pre-release single Highjack, featured in the upcoming album Don’t Be Dumb, allegedly references Drake and Rihanna’s previous relationship.
The rapper's upcoming album has been delayed in getting released. On August 23, he shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) stating that the reason behind this delay had been logistical issues for which he apologized.
He wrote that the album was in the making for six years and he wanted it to be the best album ever. As seen from the X post, the date of release which was August 30 previously, has been pushed to the fall. His last album Testing was released in 2018.
