On June 25, TMZ spoke to the Grammy executive at LAX, who revealed that he has noticed the drastic impact that Lamar's Not Like Us track has had on the pop-culture history. Mason Jr. further said:

“Obviously it’s a hot record, it’s amazing artistry. Great writing, the talent on that record, it’s incredible.”

The Recording Academy executive also shared that Lamar has a good chance of being nominated for the song due to its “quality.” He said:

“You got an artist that’s been nominated before. He’s been successful with the organization. I don’t see any reason why it couldn’t be.”

When asked whether the fact that it is a diss-track could affect its nomination, Mason Jr. dismissed the idea by stating that voters simply “appreciate greatness.”

“That’s a relevant record, it’s impactful on so many levels. I like to believe the Academy members recognize that,” Mason Jr. stated.
