Internet users have come to the defense of Kendrick Lamar and Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) after a blogger claimed that they didn't offer help with rapper Nipsey Hussle's funeral. On Saturday, August 10, 2024, a Toronto-based account, @keep6ixsoild, shared a post on X claiming Lamar and TDE "did not offer any help" when Hussle's family "couldn't find a church or priest in LA that would host his funeral."

Hussle was a rapper, entrepreneur, and activist who rose to fame in the West Coast hip-hop scene in the mid-2000s. In March 2019, he was fatally shot in South LA. The post included a clip from Nipsey's brother, Blacc Sam's, recent interview with BigBoyTV, where he revealed churches turned down the offer of funeral services.

Sam explained that Karen Civil, a music executive and business partner with Nipsey, RocNation, and NBA star LeBron James, used their connections to help bury his brother. However, @keep6ixsoild claimed Sam's comments highlighted the lack of support from Kendrick and TDE.

Netizens soon debunked claims made by the account, calling them out for spreading propaganda. One remarked:

Nipsey's friends and peers who attended the funeral, too, denied the allegations, commenting in support of Kenny and TDE executives. Here are some comments seen on X:

"This isn't accurate. Punch, Top Dawg & TDE were very supportive and in communication with us during that time and still continue to be supportive. Don't create a false narrative to align it with your personal issues with TDE. Be blessed & #LLNH," Karen 'KC' Civil clarified.

To be noted, after a user pointed out she did not name Lamar, in a separate tweet, Karen added "Kendrick, Jay Rock, ScHoolBoy, Ab-Soul & team," too, offered their support.

"Bro wtf is this??? I sat right next to Kendrick and Top at the funeral in the family section?" @BENBALLER added.
"This is cap when Nip was killed Kendrick was in Argentina doing the lollapalooza, got word did a tribute on stage. Got back in time for the funeral and did a speech. He gave Angelique which is Nip mom and Lauren cash on deck. I literally was at the funeral," another funeral attendee remarked.

Internet users slammed the outlet for holding on to the recent Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar beef and using Hussle's death to form false narratives about Lamar.

"Drake stan accounts are the most disgusting accounts on the internet.. Using someone's death to take a stab at Kendrick is weirdo sh*t... Yall really the worst fan base of all fan bases," an exasperated user reacted.
"Y’all need to let this beef go. Drake lost. Its done. This is some weirdo sh*t," one fan commented.
"These rap/entertainment outlets need to get checked man.. Too much bullsh*t being spewed.. Beans for brains," another remarked.

"His charisma and way with words was powerful,"- Kendrick Lamar about Nipsey Hussle

X community notes also called out @keep6ixsolid, stating that Kendrick Lamar and TDE were "involved with and attended" the Victory Lap rapper's funeral. It cited Ben Baller's X post and a link to Bet.com's article about his funeral. The article featured a photograph of Lamar and TDE executives donning white in his honor at the service.

This prompted the account to write:

"Lol the community note is not even about the tweet they're denying things I never said. Even Karen didn't mention his name. The article is about him attending the funeral."

Nipsey Hussle's memorial service (called Nipsey Hussle's Celebration of Life) was held on April 11 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The tickets for the service were provided free of charge. It was followed by a 25-mile procession.

In a letter, former president Barack Obama praised the Marathon hitmaker for his community work to curb violence. It was read by Karen Civil during the service.

Kendrick Lamar, who appeared on Hussle's song Dedication from Victory Lap, also wrote a letter in his honor, which was part of the program during the memorial at Staples Center. Lamar elaborated on how he met the rapper at The Game LAX Tour and expressed his admiration for him as a musician and activist. Kenny wrote:

"Casually I would go out to the crowd and listen to the substance he spewed on stage. Thinking to myself, this is the type of talent I want to be apart of. His charisma and way with words was powerful. But his integrity as a person, made me even more enthused."

Lamar paid tribute to Nipsey Hussle on his 2022 single, The Heart Part 5. While rapping his verse about Hussle, K. Dot morphed his face into the LA-born hip-hop artist.

Additionally, when Hussle was shot, Kendrick was due to perform at Lollapalooza in Argentina. At the time, the Not Like Us rapper announced his death and paid tribute to his late peer.

Kendrick, or TDE, has not responded to claims made by the Toronto-based outlet.
