Netizens recently noticed that rapper Doja Cat wasn't nominated in the Best Live Performer category at the BET Hip-Hop Awards, which is scheduled to air on October 15, 2024. The absence of Doja on the list made a lot of her fans claim that she deserved a spot there.

Many internet users believed that Doja Cat would reportedly outshine a lot of other artists whose names have been included in the category. The netizens further took to social media platforms to express their views on the same. Here are some of the responses found on X, formerly known as Twitter:

"After she made a whole rap album they still shut Doja out meanwhile she’s the best live performer."

A user tweeted:

"She absolutely bodies every single artist in this category 😭."
"They should have replaced cardi or megan for doja cat. she’s definitely out streaming and out performing both!" claimed another X user.
"What has Cardi performed to deserve to be there? Doja should have been there before her," questioned another fan who seemingly preferred Doja Cat over Cardi B.

Though most of them were of the belief that it was unfair for Doja to be not on the list, a few claimed that she was a popstar and thus didn't belong in the category. A user wrote:

"She’s not a rapper 💀."
"Because she doesn’t belong there," commented another netizen.
"Yeah because it says hip hop. If it were generalized, she'd be there," read a tweet.

Doja Cat has received a nomination in the Song of The Year category for her 2023 hit track Agora Hills

While fans have been rallying for Doja Cat on the internet, it is worth noting that she has been nominated in one category at the upcoming 2024 BET Hip-Hop Awards. Agora Hills, from her hit 2023 album Scarlet made it to the Song of the Year category. Several other artists including Nicki Minaj, Sexyy Red, GloRilla, and Megan Thee Stallion have also been nominated in the same category.

Talking about the Best Live Performer category, while Doja didn't make the list, a lot of others did. This included Burna Boy, Busta Rhymes, Drake, Cardi B, Missy Eliot, Travis Scott, Nicki Minaj, Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla, and Kendrick Lamar.

The artist with the most number of nominations (12) this year is Megan. Kendrick Lamar, on the other hand has been nominated in about 11 categories.

A September 18 report by Billboard issued a statement by Connie Orlando, EVP, music programmer and strategist at BET, which read:

"This year’s nominees exemplify the creativity and diversity of hip-hop and the culture."

Orlando also has the responsibility of overseeing the production of the entire event. Fat Joe, who would be the host as well as the co-executive producer of the event said:

"It’s been a dream to host the BET Hip Hop Awards the past few years, and I’m looking forward to taking things to the next level in Las Vegas."

There are several other categories in the BET Hip-Hop 2024 like: Best Hip-hop Video, Best Collaboration, and Best breakthrough hip-hop artist, to name a few.

The event will be broadcast on BET on October 15, 2024.
