A month after Lil Wayne performed solo at the Essence Festival held in New Orleans on July 5, 2024, Birdman AKA Bryan Christopher Williams finally cleared the speculation of an ongoing beef between him and the Young Money founder.
Lil Wayne’s absence was noted at Birdman, Cash Money & Hot Boys Reunion, as he was seen performing solo after their set. Many rumors started floating about Birdman and Lil Wayne’s alleged animosity.
However, as Birdman spoke to Gregory “Geedy P” Earls on Monday, August 5, 2024, he clarified how he had “nothing negative” against the Love Me singer. Clarifying the statement that he made at the end of his “Birdman and Friends” set, the rapper said:
“No, no. I ain’t got the heart to say nothing negative about Wayne. I love my son, man. That wasn’t what that was about. What I meant by that is I ain’t gonna let this game play me."
He further added:
"The game done played a lot of n****s. I ain’t never gonna be a p***y-a*s n***a to this industry and let them play me."
Previously, Bryan Christopher Williams' remarks at the end of the show blew out and went viral, and many thought that the rapper was dissing Wayne through his comments.
Furthermore, the rumors started when Wayne did not join his former label mates, and instead performed solo replacing Cash Money logos with his Young Money logos.
At the time, it was reported that Lil Wayne was not even seen with the rest of the group backstage, which ignited more rumors of there being a beef between the rappers.
“We always knew that Wayne was gonna have his own set”: Birdman on Lil Wayne performing separately
Birdman and Lil Wayne fans started speculating about a beef between the two rappers when the two were seen performing different sets last month at the Essence Festival.
Many at the time questioned why Lil Wayne, who was signed with Cash Money during the start of his career, did not appear on the “Birdman and Friends” set.
However, clearing all the speculations, the Pop Bottles singer stated that it was he who convinced Lil Wayne to do Essence. He said:
“I seen n****s was talking about, ‘Wayne ain’t wanna do this and do that.’ Wayne wasn’t even gonna do Essence. I called my son and asked him to do it because I was doing Birdman & Friends. He did it ’cause I asked him.”
He then went on and stated that he very well knew that Lil Wayne was going to do his own set. Giving the reason for it he said:
“We always knew that Wayne was gonna have his own set. Because me and Juvie and Geezy and Fresh, we rehearsed together every day and we had our own set together. But we all knew that Wayne was gonna have his own set."
He further added:
"He was only a surprise guest. He had done Essence two years in a row and he turned them down personally, and I asked him would he do it for me, and he did it for me. Shout out to my son Weezy, man.”
Furthermore, as Bryan Christopher Williams clears the air, and states that there is no rift between the two rappers, social media users are relieved and are now pouring their love on the duo. However, at the moment, Lil Wayne has not responded to Williams' statement about the same.
