Big Sean took to X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, to call out DJ Akademiks. This comes after the latter allegedly falsely claimed that the former was beefing with Kendrick Lamar.
On July 16, 2024, Big Sean appeared on the On the Radar show to share his freestyle track. Many initially believed that the rapper was dissing Kendrick Lamar in the song. However, DJ Hed then clarified that his diss was directed at another “Gemini” rapper.
After the release of Big Sean’s freestyle, DJ Akademiks took to his Instagram account to claim that the former was dissing Kendrick on his Instagram Live as well, by saying that K. Dot’s hometown of Compton was “gentrified.”
In response to the same, Big Sean said in a now-deleted X post:
“Yall goin wit so many narratives, im talking to da haters who just keep finding something to point out they don’t like bout me. Its not even worth explaining tho imma just focus on the music.”
Sean was alluding to one of his previous tweets in which he said, “N f**k these b***h a*s n***az. Every one of them.” Later, Big Sean commented on DJ Akademiks Instagram post to clear the air. The Mercy singer said:
“Ak you know i f*k wit you but i’m laughing cause you know that tweet n the video don’t got nothing to do wit each other lol.”
Internet users sided with Big Sean when it came to calling out DJ Akademiks. Many believed that the latter was spreading a false narrative of the former beefing with K. Dot, as Sean never mentioned Compton or K. Dot in his Instagram Live.
“I ain’t hear no names or city.. that’s a reach,” an X user said.
“Wait, wait. He never said Compton. Is this a bait video,” another person commented.
“Unless he called out Compton specifically- this could apply to pretty much every rapper from a big city in America,” another internet user said.
DJ Akademiks later reposted Big Sean’s posts and Instagram stories on his Instagram page. Meanwhile, other netizens said:
“Akagimmicks is trying to turn every urban city against LA,” another persom said.
“I feel like y’all are lying by mentioning Compton……,” another netizen commented.
“Bro trying to create a rap beef to get back in the headlines,” one person said.
Kendrick Lamar and Sean have had beef in the past, which dates back to the latter’s 2013 song Control, which featured Lamar.
“Ak said f**k imma make this about kendrick,” another person said.
“This is cap he didn’t go after Kendrick or Compton,” another netizen said.
What happened between Kendrick Lamar and Big Sean?
The Kendrick Lamar and Sean feud dates back to 2013. The latter collaborated with the Compton rapper for his song Control, which also featured Jay Electronica. In the song, K. Dot crooned that he was the king of New York, which did not sit well with Sean.
He went on to throw subliminal shots at the Not Like Us singer with his songs No More Interviews and Me, Myself, and I.
Kendrick Lamar also seemingly dissed Sean in his songs The Heart Part 5, Humble, and his alternative version of ELEMENT.
