Billboard released a revenue report on Drake and Kendrick Lamar's highly publicized beef on December 13, 2024. It detailed the streaming and publishing income each artist earned off of their diss tracks.
The 2024 rap beef, ignited after Lamar called out J. Cole and Drake on Like That, is widely considered one of modern-day hip-hop's most entertaining rap disputes, with hundreds of millions of interactions generated across social media.
In May, both artists went back to back, dropping multiple diss tracks over a single weekend, which also resulted in the release of Kendrick's chart-topping Not Like Us record, released on May 4, 2024.
According to Billboard's report, the total revenue generated from the master recording and publishing amounted to $15.3 million. Individual earning breakdowns for Kendrick and Drake's diss tracks are listed below:
- Not Like Us - total revenue earned $7.6 million.
- Like That - total revenue earned $4.6 million.
- Family Matters - total revenue earned $981,000.
- Push Ups - total revenue earned $969,400.
- Meet The Grahams - total revenue earned $795,100.
- Euphoria - total revenue earned $441,300 million.
Luminate's calculations don't appear to include revenue generated from Kendrick's 6:16 in LA and Drake's Taylor Made Freestyle and The Heart Part 6. The announced figures represent calculations for label and publisher earnings only, while each artist's cut solely depends on their contracts.
Multiple users commented on re-posts of Billboard's figures on X, sharing their thoughts on the revenue generated during the 2024 rap beef. One Drake fan was found claiming that Kendrick's diss tracks generated the same amount of revenue as one of Drizzy's "neckpieces."
"All that hype and botting, just to earn same amount as one of Drake’s neckpiece," a user stated.
More reactions followed with users sharing their thoughts on the reported earnings generated by Kendrick Lamar and Drizzy's rap beef.
"The beef generated multiples of this amount, as both artists enjoyed a significant increase in back catalog consumption. Kendrick, especially, benefitted, as all but one of his albums saw significant reactivity," a user claimed.
"Not that [DJ Akademiks] has any legitimacy ever lol but he explained quite a while back that it's probably much more than these numbers right here," said another.
"I’d love to understand the logistics of this. Because how the hell has a song that was playing nonstop everywhere by every media publication, only generate 9 million? Song basically streamed enough times to have gone double platinum at least," a user questioned.
Kendrick Lamar fans appeared surprised at the earnings generated by Euphoria, with many praising the record by calling it their favorite diss track from the 2024 rap beef.
"Someone explain for me the Euphoria numbers it’s like the 3rd song from the beef with the most streams (genuine question)," a fan questioned.
"Euphoria numbers make 0 sense. It had almost a week by itself and 6:16 wasn’t on DSPs to hog air time," added another.
"Euphoria and Push Ups the top two songs on the beef I'm sorry ya'll," a user proclaimed.
