Rapper 50 Cent recently said that he turned down a $3 million offer to perform at a Trump rally. The I Get Money hitmaker was reportedly asked to perform at Trump’s rally in Madison Square Garden on Sunday, October 27, but he turned that down as he is "afraid of politics".
The rapper made this claim during an interview on The Breakfast Club radio show on Tuesday, October 29, and said:
“They still offered me $3 million to perform at the RNC.. I didn’t even go far … I didn’t talk to them about that kinda stuff. I’m afraid of politics. When you get involved in it, no matter how you feel, someone will passionately disagree with you."
The clip of this interview soon went viral and drew a lot of comments from the netizens, with most being supportive of the rapper’s decision. One even commented that the money Trump offered the rapper wasn't “good money.”
One netizen addressed the rapper as a "king" for his decision.
One Instagram user pointed out that performing at a Trump rally was not worth 50 Cent's "integrity", while another one said that the rapper is "his own person."
50 Cent opened up about his opinion on Trump
During the recent podcast episode of The Breakfast Club, the hosts of the show, DJ Envy and Charlamagne tha God, mentioned that the rapper was also allegedly asked to play his song Many Men during the Republican National Convention in July 2024.
50 Cent further informed the hosts that he received a call about performing at a Trump rally on October 27. He explained why he declined the offer and said:
“Im afraid of politics. It’s because when you do get involved in it, no matter how you feel, somebody passionately disagrees with you. Look, if you say ‘I stay away from religion,’ I stay away from politics. Religion, that’s the formula for the confusion that it sent Kanye to Japan. He said something about both of those things and now he can only go to Japan.”
Here he referred to the fact that Kanye West had backed Trump in recent years before announcing his own presidential bid in 2020. West then started making antisemitic remarks which led to much backlash. As a result, West lost several brand deals, and his music received less airplay.
Additionally, 50 Cent also mentioned Kanye's relocation to Japan and claimed that talking carelessly about politics and religion had influenced this choice.
On the other hand, as per Billboard’s October 29 report, 50 Cent had endorsed Trump in 2020 but later withdrew his support after Chelsea Handler, his ex-girlfriend, criticized him.
Meanwhile, several rappers have supported Trump. In May 2024, musicians Sleepy Hallow (Tegan Chambers) and Sheff G (Michael Williams) joined the former US president at a Bronx campaign rally.
Other rappers like S*xyy Red, 6ix9ine, and Fivio Foreign have also stated their support for Trump.
Similarly, Vice President Kamala Harris has also received the support of numerous rappers and pop stars, such as Beyonce and Eminem, who have both recently attended her rallies. Additionally, according to a Rolling Stone report from August 24, Justin Vernon performed in Wisconsin to support the Harris-Walz ticket, while Megan Thee Stallion performed at Harris' first campaign rally in Atlanta.
