"Always on the right side of history" - Fans react as Olivia Rodrigo donates over $2M from GUTS tour to non-profits supporting women

Singer Olivia Rodrigo recently donated over $2 million from the GUTS tour to global non-profits supporting women. Citing a press release, People Magazine on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, reported that the 21-year-old was donating considerable proceeds from ticket sales to ten charities.

These include the National Network of Abortion Funds in the United States, the Pratthanadee Foundation in Thailand, the Korea Foundation for Women, NPO Women’s Saya-Saya in Japan, and Jhpiego in the Philippines, among others.

As the news went viral, internet users were quick to praise Olivia Rodrigo. One stated:

Netizens continued to applaud the move, one even calling her "people's princess."

"Truly the people’s princess," one wrote.
"now THAT'S how you support women. Thank you, Olivia. For using your influence and money for the good," another added.
"I dont live for her music but this girl is amazing and I’m here for her," a user commented.

Many people also urged other celebrities to follow in her "footsteps" and donate.

"I hope more celebs follow in Olivia’s footsteps," a fan stated.

Olivia Rodrigo dropped her second studio album, Guts, in September 2023. It featured a mix of pop-rock and alternative-style songs and ballads. The project was supported by three singles: Vampire, Bad Idea Right?, and Get Him Back!.

The album was met with critical and commercial acclaim, debuting atop the Billboard 200 chart. All 12 tracks from the project charted in the top 40 on the Hot 100 list (simultaneously). Additionally, it won the singer a People's Choice Award, an iHeartRadio Music Award, and three Webby Awards.

Olivia Rodrigo embarked on the Guts World Tour in February to support the project. The tour will run through July 1, 2025. Throughout the tour, Rodrigo has donated to various charities and causes she supports.

During its opening night in Palm Desert, the singer launched Fund 4 Good, a campaign where part of her ticket sales would be donated. The fund would support non-profits that advocate for education for girls, reproductive rights, and those that prevent gender-based violence.

Per an October 2024 article by Teen Vogue, during Rodrigo's concert at the Philippine Arena in Manila, she donated all profits from her show to Jhpiego. Talking to Billboard about the move, Olivia Rodrigo explained:

"This is such a special milestone for me to not only be visiting the Philippines for the first time but performing here for my fans. I’m so proud of my Filipino heritage, so being able to bring this experience to the Philippines means the world to me."

Rodrigo recently had her Netflix concert film, Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour, in October 2024. It is available to stream on the platform.

The singer is currently on a break from the tour and is scheduled to perform at Lollapalooza, Argentina, in March 2025 next.
