Lil Wayne revealed his top five all-time favorite rappers in his recent Not Just Football podcast appearance. In the June 27 episode of the Cam Heyward hosted show, the musician listed his preferred artists, which did not include Kendrick Lamar, who has taken over social media platforms recently, following his Drake-diss track Not Like Us topping several music charts.
Reacting to Lil Wayne’s preference, one netizen commented on social media platform X(formerly Twitter):
At the 23:30 minute point of the podcast, Lil Wayne listed his top-five rappers of all time, which included Jay Z, Missy Elliott, Eminem, the Notorious B.I.G., and Drake. It is worth noting that the singers were not listed in any specific order.
Many took to the internet to give their take on Lil Wayne's choices. The list not including Kendrick Lamar left certain netizens unimpressed as well.
“That’s why he is performing with lil kum in clubs now,” one netizen stated.
“Gotta put that weed down..,” another person commented.
“I love Misst Elliot but come on man. No Pac, Nas, or Andre3k? Smh,” another X user said.
This is not the first time the 41-year-old has discussed the topic. In January 2023, his top five list included Missy, Biggie, Jay Z, UGK, and Goodie Mob. Nonetheless, internet users had a field day with his latest response.
“His love and appreciation for Missy needs to be studied,” one person said.
“Where is K-Dot on that list,” another user questioned.
“Each of his dreads will begin to fall off in 7 days…,” one person said.
Lil Wayne had not discussed his opinions on the viral Kendrick Lamar and Drake rap beef, despite several rappers having views of their own. Meanwhile, reactions to his statement read:
“Okay but no way he put drake into his list but no Tupac,” a netizen asked.
“His top 5 has changed like a dozen times,” another user said.
“No west coast rappers is WILD,” one person said.
Many were curious about Wayne possibly mentioning Kendrick Lamar on his list. This comes after the latter name-dropped the former on his hit Not Like Us track. In the song, K. Dot alleges that Drake had a relationship with Wayne’s girlfriend while Wayne was placed behind bars.
Lil Wayne on the upcoming Tha Carter VI album
In the Not Just Football podcast, Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., revealed that although a release date for the Tha Carter VI album drop had not been set yet, it would be released “soon.” He also added:
“It’s what’s next for me. It’s coming out next, actually. I’m not sure of the actual date but it’s my next project.”
Wayne went on to reveal that the album was recorded, however, the editing was ongoing.
Tha Carter VI is part of the musician’s beloved Carter series. The last installment of the same, which would be the fifth, was released in 2018 after he delayed the same for 4 years. The album was followed by Funeral and Welcome 2 Collegrove.
