Are Drake and Young Thug friends? Canadian rapper suggests he is spending money to free the latter from YSL Rico charges

Drake left the masses shocked after he posted a selfie on his Instagram stories on October 10, 2024, in which he was seen wearing Young Thug’s Sp5der brand. The rapper wrote in the caption:

“I ain’t talking to talk man I really put up [bread emoji] on the [briefcase emoji] 3 Jeff.”

While Drake did not directly mention Young Thug’s name, he did add “Jeff,” which is the short for Thug’s real name, Jeffery Lamar Williams. On the other hand, the exact meaning of Drake’s caption has not been clarified yet, as the rapper did not mention details about spending money to free Thug.

Young Thug and Drake have had a long association with each other as the two worked together a number of times in the past. The One Dance singer collaborated for two songs in Young Thug’s album, Business is Business.

Moreover, when Drake surprised the fans by unleashing 100 GB of data including unreleased songs, album covers, and much more, many of the songs also featured the Thug.

One of Drake’s songs, It’s Up, which was released a few months back also had the lines:

"I can't sleep at night with Thug at Cobb County Corrections" he rapped. "I think he did enough reflecting, I think my brother learned his lesson."

The two have also collaborated on the songs, Solid, Bubbly, Parade on Cleveland, D4L, Way 2 Sexy and even Oh U Went.

Netizens were prompt enough to speculate that Drake’s story could be for Young Thug, and could mean that the Canadian rapper is helping the Relationships singer as he has been vocal about his YSL RICO case before.

One similar instance took place when Thug’s phone call with his girlfriend, Mariah the Scientist got leaked in January, Drake expressed his disappointment during an Akademiks livestream and said:

"Gotta be some form of jail misconduct... You gonna drag this talented man then not be able to control your employees using his personal business for their own gain?"

On the other hand, it is also worth noting that Drake has been supportive of other rappers too, as when Top5 was released from prison in September, this year, he also thanked the Champagne Papi for his help, as he said:

“Shoutout big bro @champagnepapi for the Lawyer Fees & Gary Grill for being the best lawyer in Toronto.”

For the unversed, Thug was arrested with Gunna and 28 other people on May 9, 2022. All of the 30 men were charged in a 56-count RICO, that is Racketeer Influencer and Corrupt Organization Act indictment.

Apart from allegations of running a street crime gang, Young Thug was also accused of allegedly possession illegal substances and firearms.

Despite multiple attempts by his lawyers to secure his release, all of the rapper's bail requests have been denied. Young Thug has remained in Cobb County Jail for over 28 months since his arrest.
