Singer Ashanti and Gotti first met each other in the 1990s. Back then, he was busy building up his record label Murder Inc., which later signed several artists including Ashanti.
In August 2022, the record producer appeared on the Drink Champs podcast and claimed that he had a romantic relationship with Ashanti. A few months later, in October 2022, the singer and actress appeared for an interview on the Angie Martinez IRL podcast.
She addressed the "relationship" claims and said,
"Let’s clear this up. We’re not gonna say relationship. We dealt with each other, but was Irv my boyfriend? Was I his girlfriend? Never…Irv had several girlfriends, so I’m a little confused by the label and the description."
In the same interview, Ashanti further claimed that Irv had lied about the nature of the relationship that they shared. While she referred that there were many lies being told, she chose to not expose them claiming that she was in a good space then and didn't want to dig up mud.
Ashanti and Irv Gotti had worked closely for quite a long time, which eventually led people to assume that there was a intimate relationship between them. It was even assumed that they were dating while Irv was in a marriage. On the 2022 Drink Champs podcast episode , Irv claimed that they were madly in love, but things didn't work out which led to the separation.
After the podcast, Irv also received bashing from fans and celebrities too, including Fat Joe. People called him out for his comments made on Ashanti, on the podcast. Amongst many claims that Irv Gotti made on the podcast, one was that Ashanti's hit song Happy, came to form after they slept together. The 43-year-old singer, however, claimed that things happened differently. She said,
"I’m trying to figure out, like, what made him even say that. Was I there? I’m confused. I don’t remember this at all. I wrote ‘Happy’ in the parking lot of a C.W. post college."
It could be concluded that the drama unfolded between Ashanti and Irv Gotti, primarily after the controversial 2022 podcast episode. Netizens are now eagerly to know further updates about Irv's recent s*xual assault allegations by Jane Doe.
