The hashtag #BeyhiveRacism began trending on X following #SwiftieRacism tweets on the platform. It all began on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, when Taylor Swift ranked at the No. 2 spot on Billboard’s Greatest Pop Stars of the 21st Century list.

This prompted fans to speculate that Beyoncé would top the list. In response, Swifties (Taylor Swift fans) expressed disappointment and directed negative comments toward Beyoncé and her family, which were characterized as allegedly hateful and racist.

Despite the rumors, Billboard has not revealed who would top the Greatest Pop Stars of the 21st Century list, as of writing.

However, the Cowboy Carter musician's fans, who refer to themselves as the BeyHive, began calling out the alleged hateful tweets. They began using #SwiftieRacism, which soon began trending on X. Here are some comments seen on the platform:

In response, Swifties reportedly accused the BeyHive of making allegedly racist remarks, leading to #BeyHiveRacism trending on X, formerly Twitter. Many called out Beyoncé fans for allegedly being racist to Asians and other people of color, including other Black female artists like Rihanna and Nicki.

Here are some more comments seen on X calling out Beyoncé fans:

"Hives calling other fandoms racist when they themselves are one #beyhiveracism," one person wrote.
"I'm literally not joking that I've experienced being called *asian = no opinion by a beyhive. They are one of the biggest racists of all ! Every fandom has a minority of racists , but beyhives consists most of them. #beyhiveracism," another person commented.
"they’re so threatened by other female black artists who’s more successful than beyoncé #beyhiveracism," a user added.

Neither Taylor Swift nor Beyoncé has addressed #Swiftieracism and #Beyhiveracism

Neither Taylor Swift nor Beyoncé has commented on #swiftieracism and #beyhiveracism at the time of writing. However, both hashtags were trending on the platform, amassing over 100,000 tweets in less than a day.

Several X accounts continued to share screenshots of the alleged racist and hateful posts shared by either of the fandoms. This sparked a discourse on whether it was just a fanbase feud or reflective of a larger issue.

Some users claimed that it was only a fraction of people in both fandoms, especially rage bait (manipulative comments inciting outrage for engagement) accounts that were allegedly racist.

Another user noted:

"The only thing that this “#swifitieracism” and “#beyhiveracism” has shown is that Taylor and Beyoncé truly deserve better fans," one person said.

While announcing Taylor Swift's ranking on Tuesday, Billboard noted that it would be controversial, stating that many would "tear through the internet" for the same. The publication stated:

"The fact that controversy will likely tear through the internet over her being just one small space below No. 1 is just another testament to her power. Regardless, her placement shouldn’t leave Swifties upset for too long — especially considering how much later in the millennium she got her start, both in the genre and music in general."

The publication began naming artists who have defined the pop music scene in the last twenty-five years since October 2024. Adele was ranked at No. 10, followed by Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Kanye West, and Britney Spears, with Lady Gaga, Drake, and Rihanna making the 5th, 4th, and 3rd spots, respectively. Bruno Mars, Eminem, BTS, Nicki Minaj, Shakira, and The Weeknd also make the list.

The publication also released an honorable mentions list featuring artists like 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar, Cardi B, Billie Eilish, and many others.
