"Back at work" - Mariah Carey rehearses for upcoming shows after "a couple of rough weeks" following mother and sister's death

Mariah Carey recently posted on social media, days after her mother and sister passed away tragically on the same day. Sharing a video of her singing on September 8, 2024, Mariah Carey stated that she is “back at work,” as she also addressed the “couple of rough weeks” she had. Singing her hit 2005 track It’s Like That, she wrote in the caption:

“Back at work. It’s been a couple of rough weeks, but I appreciate everyone’s love and support so much and I can’t wait to see my fans in China & Brazil. Love you!”

The Instagram post came weeks after Mariah Carey announced on August 27, 2024, about the tragic demise of her mother and sister, Patricia and Alison. Revealing the same to People Magazine on August 27, 2024, Mariah had said:

“My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day. I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”

On the other hand, it has not yet been revealed by the family, as to what caused the death of both the mother and the sister. However, a patient advocate, David Baker revealed to the publication that Mariah’s mother, Alison “had a tough life,” as she had not been keeping well. He revealed that she was not well for the entire month before she died in her New York home.

Mariah Carey, who recently shared about the tragic incident that shook her once shared how she had been estranged by her family, and was not in talking terms with her mother, sister and brother. In her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, she claimed that her relationship with her mother caused her “so much pain and confusion.”

She elaborated:

"For my sanity and peace of mind, my therapist encouraged me to literally rename and reframe my family. My mother became Pat to me, Morgan my ex-brother and Alison my ex-sister ... I had to stop expecting them to one day miraculously become the mommy, big brother and big sister I fantasized about.”

After being in a stressful situation for the past few months, Mariah Carey is now all set to perform in China for her fans on September 15 and 16, this year. After China, she will be headed to Brazil, as she will perform there on September 20, and 21.

Post China and Brazil, Mariah will commence her USA tour in November, as she is scheduled to perform in Los Angeles, Palm Desert, Phoenix, Austin, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Nashville, Washington DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Newark and more American cities. Her tour will finally end on Feb 15, 2025, as she will be performing in Las Vegas at the Park MGM complex.
