Bad Bunny confirmed to join Adam Sandler in his upcoming Netflix movie ‘Happy Gilmore 2’

Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio popularly known as Bad Bunny has been reported to join the cast of Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore 2 movie. In an exclusive publication by the Hollywood Reporter on September 10, 2024, the Monaco hitmaker’s role was not disclosed, but it was confirmed that he would be starring in the movie.

Happy Gilmore 2 is a Netflix sequel to the critically acclaimed original Happy Gilmore released in 1996. The 1996 movie is centered on the eponymous character, Happy Gilmore (Adam Sandler) a hockey player who enters a golf tournament for monetary gain and ends up an unlikely golf hero.

The plot for the prequel is being kept under wraps but it has been confirmed that the Netflix sequel will be directed by Kyle Newacheck of Murder Mystery. Also, Adam Sandler, Julie Bowen, and Christopher McDonald will be returning in the sequel having starred as the protagonist, the love interest, and the villain, respectively in the original.


Bad Bunny’s acting resume: Every movie he has starred in

Bad Bunny has also showcased his creative side through acting. His first acting role came with a brief cameo in the 2021 F9 movie. He followed after the same year with the role of Kitty, a Mexican drug trafficker in the final season of Netflix’s Narcos: Mexico.

In 2022, he appeared in the movie Bullet Train. In the action comedy film directed by David Leitch, he plays the Wolf, an assassin who tries to take down Brad Pitt’s character, Ladybug. In September 2022, the Latin rapper spoke with USA TODAY about his role:

"I have always dreamed about making movies and acting. But I never ever had a dream where I was trying to kill Brad Pitt in a movie scene."

In 2023, he starred alongside Gael Garcia Bernal in Cassandro, the biographical drama film directed by Roger Ross Williams. He played the role of Felipe, Cassandro’s (Gael Garcia Bernal) lover.

In August 2024, Deadline reported that the popular rapper was cast in Darren Aronofsky’s crime thriller movie, Caught Stealing, although details of his role haven’t been disclosed. The movie will also star Austin Butler as Hank Thompson, a former baseball player who becomes entangled in the crime underworld of New York City.

In a cover story for Vanity Fair in September 2023, Bad Bunny talked about his acting roles:

"You could say that I have been investing a little bit more of myself in acting."

He talked about how he’d like to explore different movie genres other than action movies:

"As a movie consumer myself, I’m not one to watch a lot of action movies. I’d even say it’s my least favorite genre. I would really like to play other kinds of things, like a little bit more drama, romance too, or comedy, maybe a history movie with a little action in it.
