Beyonce is set to perform at the NFL Christmas game halftime show on December 25 in her hometown, Texas. Following this announcement, podcasters Mal and Rory discussed the event on their podcast, New Rory & Mal. They compared the anticipated halftime shows of Kendrick Lamar and Beyonce, referencing Lamar's performance at the NFL Super Bowl halftime in 2025.
A clip of the podcast was uploaded on X on December 6 by @newrorynmal. In the clip, Mal can be seen saying:
“If you're Kendrick, are you upset that Beyonce's performing at the halftime on Christmas? Because I think her numbers will be highered than this? Beyonce's bigger than the Super Bowl.”
Once the video went viral, netizens criticized him for the comparison. They further said that Queen Bee will not outdo the Super Bowl and these types of comparisons should be stopped. One netizen on X wrote:
“Beyoncé IS NOT OUTDOING THE SUPERBOWL!! can we seriously f*cking stop with that take?”
Others also echoed similar sentiments. One person noted that Kendrick didn’t care about numbers and that he loved Beyonce. Meanwhile, another one directly condemned Mal for his statement.
“……Mal thinks Kendrick gives a f*ck about numbers… Additionally, Kendrick loves Beyonce, if anything he would be happy for her, not jealous or nervous… That's the type of WEAK A*S MENTALITY that was bread over at cash money records,” stated one user.
“There's no limit to how far down he'll stoop.. he the type of obsessed fan boy he'd take a charge for the pdf file boy,” alleged another netizen.
“I’m convinced he says these takes on purpose for engagement farming,” mentioned one netizen.
On the other hand, some users tried to counter Mal’s point reasonably. One said that Kendrick madly respected Beyoncé and was happy for both of them. Another one said that Queen Bee’s show would be telecast on Netflix, so it might get better views than the Super Bowl.
“Kendrick has mad respect for Beyoncé and vice versa with Beyoncé for Kendrick…,” echoed another one.
“Kendrick is an honorary hive member... self proclaimed. He loves this for both of them,” commented another one.
“The Halftime show will be on Netflix. The Tyson-Paul fight had 108 million viewers, so B has a good chance at passing the Superbowl numbers considering that it will be broadcast on Netflix,” one user claimed.
Mal and Rory discuss Kendrick Lamar and Beyonce's upcoming NFL performances
During the same podcast, while discussing whether Lamar should feel nervous about Beyonce’s Christmas Halftime show, Mal said:
“If I'm Kendrick, you're not looking at the NFL like. F*ck, why would y'all put this f*cking megastar? That's a bigger star than I was on the halftime show two months before me, like, that's a lot of pressure on Kendrick.”
Developing on Mal’s argument, Rory said:
“On average, no matter what. 100 and 17 million people are watching the Pepsi halftime show. Average Christmas Day game 28.7 million viewers. This is not even comparable…”
Mal then asked:
“You think the average is at 28 million with Beyond performing at the half time is only gonna do 30 million?"
The podcast was released two weeks after the November 17 announcement that Queen Bee would be the first act of the NFL's very first live Christmas Gameday performance.
Meanwhile, in September, the NFL, Roc Nation, and Apple Music announced that Lamar would be the first-ever solo headliner for the Super Bowl halftime show. He is scheduled to perform in New Orleans on February 9, 2025.
