Soulja Boy responded to online critics after performing at President-elect Donald Trump's Crypto Ball. Cryptocurrency executives celebrated Trump's return to the White House on Friday, January 17, in Washington. Snoop Dogg headlined the event, with Soulja Boy and Rick Ross as the other performers.
As footage from their performances circulated on social media, netizens quickly called them out. However, the Crank That rapper was quick to defend his performance at Trump's Crypto Ball. In a recent Instagram Live session, the rapper remained unbothered, saying:
"They paid me a bag. Obama ain't never put no money in my f**king pockets, n***a. Kamala ain't never put no money in my f**king pockets, n***a. Trump put money in my pockets, n***a."
As his comments about money spread on social media on Sunday, January 19, netizens expressed their disapproval of the Atlanta rapper's decision. One user on X commented:
"Bro only cares about the money."
Others echoed similar sentiments, criticizing the Atlanta rapper for putting money over morals.
"Guess Soulja Boy's motto is 'Follow the money'—no matter who's handing it out," an X user wrote.
"Black people stay selling their morals (soy) to the devil (money)... All money ain't good money and it's not leaving a good legacy behind," another user on X commented.
Despite the backlash, not everyone viewed the rapper's decision to attend and perform at Donald Trump's Crypto Ball with disdain and supported him.
"I don't see wrong in Snoop Rozay and Soulja Boy performing at the crypto ball. Get your bag! A lot of y'all voted for Trump on the low & talking sh*t," an X user wrote.
"Soulja Boy being real! They should stop using artists as material for political debates. Let them practice their art, especially since none of the rappers attending the ball are members of a political party," another X user wrote.
"Is he lying? I respect the hustle. The man has a family and mouths to feed," a user on X added.

Soulja Boy defends performing at Donald Trump's Crypto Ball, says he would "do it again"
Despite the ridicule and criticism he received online, Soulja Boy stood firm in his decision to attend and perform at last week's Donald Trump's Crypto Ball. He took to Instagram Live to discuss and rationalize his choice, stating:
"I'll do it again."
He defended his actions, noting that Vice President Kamala Harris never reached out to him about performing during her campaign, nor did former President Barack Obama. Moreover, the rapper stood by his fellow rappers Snoop Dogg and Rick Ross at the Friday event. He said:
"Y'all want me to answer the phone for the f**king president? This n***a the president of the motherf**king United States."
Soulja Boy further told netizens that Trump wasn't even present at the Crypto Ball and that it was only an event for crypto. In another Instagram Live video shared by Live Bitez on January 19, he admitted that he was initially "50/50" split about performing at Trump's event, but the money they paid him at the event was "worth it" and something he needed.
